1.2 16v to 172 conversion - pas problems....

  F4r'd Clio 1.2 16V
hello

i recently converted my 1.2 16v ( 2002 ) to a 172 ( 2002 ), the problem being is the mot garage wont pass my car without no power steering which i dont even want but thats another story! i was just wondering if there is a way to get around the 172 rack option seeing as the power steering on the 1.2 was electric? i called ktec up and asked what they do and they said they change the abs ring? i might just be a dinny but how would changing the abs ring give me power steering?

if i take the positive from the pas motor to a known feed and then earth the connection out the steering goes fully to the right and there is so much resistance that you cant move it at all left?

any help/advice would be appreciated

Why don't you go for the 172 rack? Column and rack shouldn't be that expensive second hand. What running gear (brakes, hubs, shafts) are you using? 1.2 or 172?

i am using 1.2 hub's with upgraded 1.2 brakes and shafts, and the only reason i'm not keen on going for the 172 rack option is because i find it hard to believe that as the 1.2 rack is electric there is no way to get it working? as stated k-tec do not change the rack on the conversion they do so there has to be a way.

cheers

electric power steering computer still plugged in?
Sounds like you need the wiring diagrams and in order to splice the original loom to effectively get the powersteering motor wired
up as it was before.

the computer is getting a 12v feed in and nothing out suggests that the computer has gone down but was working fine untill the conversion so find it hard to believe! will try fred's idea about the ring i think.
