1.2 16V to 172 conversion questions

wiring, not my favourite subject!

i have 3 seperate looms that came with the engine, 1 is the engine loom (ecu, injectors etc) i understand this one!

next is the UCH under dash loom, now do i have to install the complete loom, or can i just swap the UCH etc etc onto the 1.2 16v loom already in the car?

the 3rd loom looks like its for lights etc etc, ie not relevant

16v jon??? Batman?? help!
 
Fred from the looks of the wiring diagrams you could use your old looms but for the effort I wouldn't bother just swop the whole looms. OK your dash needs to come fully out and its more work but you'll need to work out your ABS and PAS systems anyway.

not messing about there. just been looking at adamhodg's couple of pics i took on my mobile. fair to say i wont be attempting one anytime soon

Wow Fred, you don't mess around - looks like you're making some rapid progress there! Hope the wiring goes ok - never enjoyed that side of things myself either!
Are you keeping it looking as it was outside? (with the green rims?) or is there going to be a new look to go with the new engine?

Edit: Just noticed the bonnet stay! I have something similar in the garage for my mini...

yes i know that, but do i have to use the loom attached to the 172cup uch etc? or can i just swap the uch and bits onto the 1.2 loom in the car? ie save me taking the dash off to change the looms

the block connectors to the uch are standard now... like on the megans..the uch will interchange ..its the unit itself that varies due to the spec of the car.

so basically

pull out my old uch, decoder ring, clocks and ignition barrel

then whack in the 172 cup parts, hook up the fag lighter and off it go?

Give it a go its the easy option. I'm trying to read the drawing but there impossible.

Don't forget the PAS pump needs removing.

I assume your using the ABS system to power the speedo if so least when/if you need to chnage boxes you cna use any box not just a Cup box with its speedo sensor.

1.2 shafts humm can we guess now long they last? I'm guessing two months.

Just though I gues your using the Cup dash?

If so then you'd need a Renault Clip to swop the dash over to think its got an ABS system IMo its worth it. Only issue is the ECU has a speedo in line so it tuns the fans on /off at different speeds depending on temperature but IMO thats no issue.
