1.2 ecu

  clio 1.2
Hi all,new member looking for some tech info.
I've got a 1.2,1997 model clio (1149 c.c.) which has a snapped timing belt.I have bought another car to take the engine, and any other parts I may need, out of but the car it is in now has a problem with the immobilser sensor.can I swap the ecu from the second car, if needed, into the first car or are they coded to the sensor.
Also,is the crankshaft pulley bolt on these engines on a left hand thread as it has been impossible to loosen it to get the bottom timing belt cover.Need to know before I snap the bolt using impact ratchet gun.

thread is normal, lefty loosey, righty tighty

have you tried locking/unlocking the car before starting it? is the light by the gearstick just flashing all the time?

  clio 1.2
yep it keeps flashing, the lad who had it before me said he had been having a problem with the sensor as water had been getting in the sunroof.he tried wiggling the 3 wires at the back of it as he said that uaually worked, but not this time

I locked the car with key then tried to unlock with remote but nothing happened. Is there a set procedure to go through to reset it?

  Lionel Richie
so the remote central locking doesn't work?

you lock/unlock the car whilst still in the car with the remote keyfob, then that should disable the imobiliser

  clio 1.2
yes it seems like it,the remote doesn't seem to do anythimg although the light on the remote itself flashes whe you press the button

  clio 1.2
No.wasn't sure if they are coded to the ecu for the immobiliser.will it do any damage if they aren't interchangeable ?

Sounds off topic but you mentioned you have a leaky sunroof? Common problem on mk1's. . .or any older car with sunroof. The most amazing thing with mine is how simple it was to fix, guy at work told me. If you have green stuff on the sill, its mould and will stop the rubber springing up and making a seal, make sure its going to be dry and you've just washed the car, then run washing up liquid round the seal, rub it in and leave for as long as you can (about 2 days is good). I did this and still drove around with it on for two days and the green all disappeared and the sill popped up again, no more problem with leaky leaky.

finally got the sensor to work, still wouldn't start though.after 2 hours of trying this and trying we eventually found someone had unlpugged the fuel pump and had broken of the feed pipe when they tried to take the pump out.just as well they did take the plug off as we would have flooded the back of the car with petrol.would have found the problem quicker though.
