1.4 16v

Anyone tracked / done engine work to a 1.4 16v? I want to hear from you. Especially if you have bhp/lbft figures from a RR.

Or a 1.6 8v, but more interested in the 1.4 16v.

Think theres a lad on here with a 1.6 (Either that or the 1.4) K4M and hes put it on Bodies although im not entirely sure, had a look at the power graphs in his thread and they were very flat. Username was something like Domino.

that was mini valvers, he had a custom inlet manifold made and used a single 172 butterfly

my k4m runs boddies off a honda fireblade ;)

if its a 1.4 16v your using id look to use the bottom end from a 1.6 16v for the extra torque (im assuming the top end is the same although you would need to double check that) have some headwork done while you have it in bits, wilder cams, nice exhaust manifold and filter setup should see 130bhp or there abouts, your never going to get big power from one without spending an absolute fortune and its back to the old your cheaper with a 2.0 conversion argument

I could only go as far as "blueprinting" the engine - just wondering really how far this could be pushed and what sort of bhp it could be pushed to.

Only difference between the 2 engines is the stroke. I have my engine complete minus cams. So will still make a strong 130bhp on standard cams, buy it ;)

Blueprinting will gain you nothing if yours is already strong other than a base to add power too reliably.

Sell it. Simple.

It makes a better and cheaper track car than a heavily tweaked 1.4 16v or 1.6 8v does it not?

Mine was quicker than standard 172, identical to Middo's, identical to a modded GTI-6. This is time after time proven upto silly speeds. On track, mine was 3 tenths down on the 172 we have at work with old cup car suspension. I have standard front dampers FFS.

Assumptions based on nothing are retarded.

Id love to see yours go mate, like i said before, the power is delievered all the way through the rev range iirc.

Custom plenum, headwork and cams. Head and plenum are for sale, as is the bottom end!

To be fair, the cost of getting the K4M to 140bhp is pretty high compared to a ph1 172 for a track car is pretty high. I'm not having a go at your car mate, I like it, nice to be different but your car is stripped etc, compared to a stripped 172 it would obviously be slower as 170bhp plays 140bhp.

170bhp from a standard 172 is never true though. More 160-165. Even then, 20bhp on track is absolutely f**k all. If you've driven on track, you'd understand thatb raw HP isn't half the story. Sure, same driver, same track you'd have an edge but I really doubt its going to be much more than a second.

For example sake, have you seen the video of Fred in his 1.2 against a 172? As you own one, it's the fastest thing in the world though. I got humped by an ITB'd GTI-6 in a straight line to 100 by about 10 car lengths, 200bhp. Against a standard GTi6 mines slightly quicker to 80, then its level pegging. So that 40 hp made a 10 car length distance. Half that, and at 100mph, 5 cars lengths is sod all.

I've taken the 1.6 out of mine, it wasnt rapid but it definately went well, enough to warrant the money IMO, otherwise it would be pointless.

Fair enough, what engines going in yours next then?

determined to do something fruity to a K4M myself. There's some interesting options out there if you hunt

indeed and seen as the k4m has similar sized valves to a f4r and has a shorter stoke it makes for an intresting rather rev'y potential

i would love to see one rev to 10k :D

What you'd want is a head where the cam acts directly on the tappets...1.4/1.6 16v VW engine will rev to 9-10krpm
