1.4 RT exhaust rattle

  300bhp MR2 Turbo

A friend of mine now owns my old 1.4rt that was lowered 35mm and had a piper stainless backbox.

The problem is the centre section of the exhaust hangs low and rattles under the car against the gear box. Also it rubbs the ground when its loaded.

Hes had the backbox removed and (he thinks) the suspension raised. I dont believe that personally as its just a local garage.

Ive told him that was a waste of money and that he only needed work on the centre - has any one else had this problem and know the real reason the exhaust hangs so low?

I had that car for 3 1/2 years and its kinda gutted me that hes had that done without checking with me first. I know it inside out!!

mine rattles when i go round a corner, well it more of knocks but i got used to it :)

I think its just the exhaust mounts, chances are they have cracked and stretched. One of mine had totally come off

didnt have the rattling but the mid section silencer scrapes speed bumps

Best off gettin a 1.2 mid sectionas they dont av the box so this might give him some clearance

As for the rattling, get under the car and shake it and find out where the rattling is

The centre is actually hitting the gearbox area as the gear stick is rattling around with it.

I once had it on some ramps and they heated it all up with a blowtorch and bent it so it fit more snug.

Daz - when you say exhaust mounts to you mean the bands at the back as there is nothing else between those and the down pipe?

thats wot i thought. Theres 2 rubber mounts at the back box, but apparently there was one missing from the mid section somewhere (although i cant see where it is)

is the centre section hitting the rear engine mount? had a few where poor quality exhaust and poor fitting have been the main problems.check all the exhaust mounts and see if you can adjust the exhaust position.

according to my local power flow the clios are notoriously bad for having crap exhaust mounts especially for the middle section where there are none!!

why renault did this i have no idea.
