1.4 turbo

Car  Mk2 ph1 clio
Has anyone put this in their clio? Im tinkering with the idea.

I have a 1.2 8v atm and fancy an engine conversion. I know the 2l would be the easiest but i like the idea of the turbo engine tbh!

Anyone got any info on it?

I take it you are talking about the C1J lump out of an R5, I would have thought it to be a fairly easy conversion as the 5 has no proper ecu and wiring is basic. The hardest part would prob be souring the parts I have done a similair thing myself but ditched the C1J in favour of the F4r so if you need some parts I do still have some bits lying about.

The C1J is also cheaper to repair if things go wrong than the 2l. Just look after them regular service often.

easy as piss to do, done 2 now in my backgarden, well if its into a mk1 clio, good conversion and with a few minor mods u can easily make 2 ltr power and loads more torque

If you wait until begin of next year you can get the 1,4t (TCE130) that´s in the MéganeIII.....;)

It's going into a mk2 ph1 clio.

I thought with it being quite and old engine it would be easier to do than anything else out there.

Whats the f4r lump? I won't be doing it til next year (xmas and that!) so i have plenty of time to research it!

tbh im just sick on the whopping 60bhp my car has lol

F4R = 172 lump

The R5 GTT (C1J) lump will be easy to do matey and is a good sound engine 120bhp in standard form.

Cheers mate!

I thought i reconized that engine number, just want something other than the 2litre, i could buy a sport for that!

Anyone done it before though? I wouldnt mind seeing some photos!

With an R5 you have loads of pipes you can re-route these to make it look less messy like in my R5 bay before I removed the C1J lump in favour of the F4r

there is no doubt about it, R5 turbos are the messiest engines in the world!

good conversion, get it done. lil bit annoying not having fuel injection. alternatively, volvo 1.7 turbo.

theres another spanner in my works lol.. the 1.7 turbo.. what volvos were they in?

Also, whats that conversion like to do?

Still in favour of the R5 engine atm!

440? defo the 480, and the 460?

480 is the REALLY cool one that volvo clearly wanted to look like a spaceship.

They are identical in all 3 cars, and renault F block (same as valver/willy) engines and "not normal developments" has just quoted a really interesting few paragraphs about them. Do a search

I personally think the C1J is the better of the 2 engines for power and tunability options but then as already said the 1.7 lump has got the efi so will start 1st time and everytime:rasp: unlike a carbed C1J.

why not sell your car and buy a phase 1 172 surely you would save money can pick them up really cheap now ?
just a thought.

I like my car as it is, so really want to keep it and just change the engine.

I don't want the 2litre in, i want something different.

May look into this volvo engine, just to see what id need to put it in my engine bay compared to the 1.4!

If your going to go down the route of the Volvo 1.7 turbo it is cheap enough to buy a whole turbo 440 or 480 car and that way you will have everything you need loom, ecu, pipes, etc. I know a bloke on RTOC who is selling a 480 turbo think the turbo has gone but the rest of the engine is fine or check out fleabay.
