1.6 16v performance

what power/torque do these put out? i think there might be a prob with mine as somedays it feels quick and othes really underpowered even getting slaughtered by a standard vtr!!! theres a slight leak from the thermostat housing and theres loads of crap on the crank sensor/tdc lead could this be causing it?



also does anyone sell any performance parts for these?

i think its 110bhp and about 102lb/fts of torque.

well ive got a ss exhaust with a sports cat and a ramcharger induction kit(might change it to a BMC CDA).

oh and coilovers help loads

Yeah, some days mine feels very responsive and rapid, and other days i have hardly any mid-range it seems. I think some of it is in our heads. Knowing that we want a faster car

Agreed, the cars performance will hardly change at all, unless something is seriously wrong with it. Its how you feel

iv had a prob with the tdc lead, renault cleaned it and said it would be fine. it caused the car to cut out or not fire when trying to start, thought that this might be the problem but its defo slower some days than others. does anyone do turbo or charger conversions? as the do for the 16valve 106/saxo

ive got powerflow exhaust (i think anyway, it was on when i bought it and there were no receipts for it) , ktr ramcharger induction kit and its lowered. i get exactly the same feeling. some days i love it and it feels pretty quick then somedays it feels slow as anything. I think its definatly how YOU feel like was said ealier, i think the problem is because its kind of in the middle IMO because its not a slow car but its not really a fast car and i dont know if other owners agree but im always wanting something faster!!! lol

yep its nippy for sure and not slow, some morings it feels sluggish but other days it zips about!

but im glad i have had a gradual rise in engine sizes, looking forward to the 2ltr soon.

Does the "KTR RAMCHARGER" make much of a difference in power (bhp)? As I am thinking of buying 1 for my 1.6.

I find that my car is quite nippy (for a small and light car anyway).

Whats the max power you can get from a 1.6 16v Clio? & can you get a turbo or anything like that?

anything is possible if you got enough cash to throw at it.

There a supercharger kit sold on the contnet for the 1.6 it costs ~£5.5k before fitment though (say £1k for fitment) its so expecsve as its TUC approved so you could do it cheaper (taking to GMC or whoever the company who charge the Saxo VTR/VTS cars).

Best way to more power (166hp) is to drop a 172 engine box brakes and suspension onto the car though £1.5k for all the bit (ex VAT) then either pay £1.5k to get it fitted or do it yourself (shouldnt be to bad just as th mounts are the same) there are 2 forum members doing the same to there cars so by the time you start there will be at least one guide writtn on how to do it.

Speak to j3ned if your interested in 172 power as he sells the engine and has done the conversion before.
Otherwise the VAG 1.8T engine fits 280hp for £4k excluding fitment. (talk to j3ned again)

BenR and Yo2za sell cams for the 1.6 since its the same engine as in the 1600 Clio rally cars and there are some more normal uprated cams if you want.

cheers for all the help guys, but ive been wrong all along, when we brought the car 2 years back we were told it was a 16v but 2day while sorting a few probs out i decided to take the rocker cover off and to my suprise there were only 8 valves!!!! im a bit fuming to be honest but i dnt think there is much i can do now as there is no actual literature saying thats its 16valve!!!!!

Yeah I thought it was all about money.

I might as well sale my 1.6 16v Clio (only done done 1012 miles so far from new) and get a 172 in October when I have a years no claims.
