how much boost can the standard inlet manifold handle ? Wasnt aware it was strong enough, having said that there's legohead's 182 turbo on 300bhp and that has the std inlet mani iirc

It's not on 300bhp just yet. No where near that.

I am running 12psi at peak, but the mapping on my car is all wrong so power is lacking.

I dont think I have much more than 220bhp at the moment.....

When I went to rstuning we managed 250bhp with 10psi boost, just by tweaking the map.

i think rstuning use the same mapper and sothware as bbpt used.
yh mine was at 9psi ish 0.6bar

i hoping for more with omex.
better mapping etc

bbpt used henk from fast chip.

Paul at rstuning has offered to completely redo the map on my car because it's pants.

I am wondering about omex though, as I could have a go myself

iv got no option really as my oe loom is fooked and because the wires are longer to the pedal its stopped working!
plus the omex offers much more adaptability for future mods.

I've been quoted around 400 for the remap and omex or similar will cost me over a grand i guess once its properly mapped.

omex will be on my wish list.lol.

My advice is to never go aftermartket unless you have to.

And we don't use anyone's software, we write all our maps for the cars we do on the dyno.

Nice project btw :)

Steve, have you had problems with your turbo wastegate leaking? Mine has just been found to be not sealing correctly I think this is why I have been down on power as boost doesnt rise too quickly.

You wont be down on power as peak boost will be the same (unless your wastegate is stuck wide open)

I would always go aftermarket on the ECU front. It gives you the flexability to make changes without incurring massive mapping costs. If a re-map by Fast Chip costs you £400.00 a pop it gets expensive as you'll need to take it in for a re-map every time you make a modification. Standalone gives you the option to modify / tweak your own maps for free (as long as you know what your doing).

Are you sure you want to go down the Omex route? I know it seems to be the ECU of choice amongst the Clio Tuners but I've found the resolution on the map to be quite poor compared to the DTA that I'm using now. Have you considered an Adaptronic, they get great reviews and also have a self mapping feature built in, you fit a knock sensor and set your target AFR's for different loads and it apparently does the rest for you. We are fitting one to a 225 lump in an R5 at the moment an its not up and running yet so can't say how user friendly it is but it sounds good in theory! A lot of people use them on the RTOC!

Suprised this project isn't finished yet, seems to have been around for ages now ;)

I've been reading up about the adaptronic ecu, it has absolutely everything bar the kitchen sink!

Electronic controlled dump valve is a cool feature!

really dont want to seem impartial about this but my friend has had his for a couple of years and is at his wits-end with it. Pricing him up an Omex 710 to replace it.

I tried to help him get it running with his new engine (RB25) and i had to type every load point (ignition and fuel) by hand as we couldn't import the file he was sent. it's just awkward, and it still wont run no matter what he does.

yh i was looking into the adaptronic ecu but decided
to go with omex as its more tried and tested!
more product support.
somebody was going to give me the number for a guy that deals in them but never did.
omex can also make up car and application specific looms for you car or project.

no .
no problems with the wastgate mate.
only thing i had go was the dump valve diaphram ripped and kept dropping boost:rolleyes:

Apparently the housing material on the turbo is crap. It's the second one that ktec have seen damaged like mine.

I thought that as i was constantly leaking boost and the turbo wouldnt get upto max boost quickly that I would be slightly down on power lower in the rev range.

dump valve.......f**k it off.

I was thinking of blanking mine off to see if idling would improve.

edit : double posting ftl....
