16s on a Mk1 Phase 1 Clio

Was thinking of getting some, after a mate told me that I could fit rims bigger than 15s without any lowering or arch-rolling. What I want to know is this true, and what would be ideal rim and tyre sizes? I was hoping something along the lines of 16x6.5 (if poss) otherwise 16x7 and 195/40/16 for the tyres.

I have a 1994 1.2 RL Campus btw (if thats any help)

the maximum width u can have are 195s otherwise u will need arch work

16s is probably the most sensible when it comes to it

got 16s on myn, lowered 80 at the back, 55 at front, rubs on full lock at the front but only on the plastic arch lining stuff, and rubs at back when i got over big bumps, but thats it. i ent toutched the archs, i didnt even take the plastic arch lining out.

I have 15s and had to remove the mudflaps, only have about 10mm of clearence on the fronts on full lock, although my suspension hasnt been touched .... yet.
