16v engine?

now this is logged as a 1.4 16v but it seems to look different to the 16v engines ove seen....

whats the story?

is this car a MK1 Phase 1 1.4S?
if so, they are all 8V, the Si are 1.4 16v or 1.6 8v

mk2 ph1 1.4 sport had an 8v. No such thing as a 1.4 16v sport

I used to own a Ph1 "Si" 16v which had no sunroof, 172 dash, aircon and dual optic headlights.

My friend owned a Ph1 "S" 8v with a sunroof, 172 dash, no aircon and dual optic headlights.

You could compare the engine no. with what is on the V5 and the ID plate.

Whoa, whoa, whoa - I'm pretty sure my engine looks like that (in work at the mo) and I've always been led to believe it was a 1.4 16v too.

This is when they introduced the 16v "Si". Which replaced the "S" 8v

There is a lot of mk2 ph1 16v's every petrol infact.

1.2 16v mk2 ph1 (those tagged with "s" on the side badges I believe) (although I could be wrong about the 1.2)
1.4 16v mk2 ph1 (again "s" tagged)
1.6 16v mk2 ph1 (rsi or RXE I believe)
2.0 16v

With the plugs in the side of the head id guess it 8v, though im not 100% on small Renault engines

yeah mines is a 2000 plate 1.4 S badged...
when i put in for insurance it came up with 16v in the title for the car so i assume thats correct?

The original picture is 100% an 8 valve engine, I've done a couple of top end rebuilds on them in the last few months
