172 1.2 running gear compatibility

  LY 182
putting the best parts of the 2 parts together on my conversion.. does anybody know if the....

1.2 subframe, wishbones, shafts ( to keep narrow track)

will work with 172 hubs shocks and brakes?

ie will the splines on the cv joints of the 1.2 shafts match up to the 172 hubs?

going to do some fitting tommorow see what fits what but would be nice to know in advance
cheers

  Lots of Alfas
I think driveshafts will be ok, best to ask fred as Im sure he did the conversion with 1.2 running gear.

right on my way to work thismorning i sussed that the plan i suggested wouldnt work as camber would be out too far to correct

splines do match up,, but the only way i can really do it without widening track is make brackets up to fit the 172 calipers so i have set about this
shame really as i have two mint 172 shocks and 2 knackered 1.2 ones

no only because of 1 lower gearbox mount that bolts to the 172 subframe
but i have just drilled the hole in my old subframe

i have always thought that the subframe had to be changed?
Nope the RS one is stuiifeer and has holes for the 4th mount but they cna just be drilled.

You can make it work I'd just stick with normal hubs and either uprate the brakes or go for 4 pots.

if you want to use 172 shaft in normla hube you need to swop the bearings etc its straight swop as such but there bigger.

You can use 1.2 shaft or 172 in the box just igot to use the right bearing pushed into the hubs as such.

I'd get all new shocks anyway.
