172/182 5.5kick?

  C63 AMG, F430 & 172
i have a mrk1 172 n ma best m8 ad (uncleiven) has a 182, when we do a sprint our cars are exactly the same all the way to 130ish, but when driving them the engine feel alot diff, i know its a 182 and mien a 172, but the 5.5 k kick in the 182 is very noticable noise performance etc, but mein car u can harldly tell when it does kick in, it seem to feel the same all the way round, but the performance is the same,

i have also been up against a few mrk2s 172s, n they dont keep up? but people rave about the kkick in them?

is this a feature of the mrk1 ? would better induction lift this kick up?

Different engine respond differently.
The 5.5k kick is just the cams coming on some engine kick more than others depends hwo good they are.

on my 172mk2 the kick was very harsh , not been in a 182 or mk1 so carnt comment on them, but when i had the viper fitted and took the butterfly valve out the kick isnt there now , well isnt as noticeable.

Absolutely nothing do with VVT... That operates from 1350rpm upwards.

The "kick" is the cams.

erm didnt mean to put that that way........the vvt is not real vvt iirc its a mecanical sprocket spinning inside the pully thing?

Tbh mate I don't notice the kick. All I know is that the car just loves to go :p And at the moment im too busy listening to the bloddy shot rear bearing that sounds like an airplane than feeling out for the kick. With the VVT can you hear a noise when it changes, cos my mate says you should be able to. With this bearing again I can't hear dideley squat.

VVT is very real in the sense of Variable Valve Timing and constantly adjusts the timing from 1350rpm(ish) upwards.

Any sound at 5k(ish) has absolutelty nothing to do with VVT whatsoever. These are Clio's not Type R's. You seem to be thinking of VTEC however which is not merely valve timing.

The kick is becase of the cams timing etc they start to make more power. Cars with less kcik are more powerful usualy a they obviously make more power as the increase in power isn't as great as the engien freely breathing anyway.
VVt works at 1.35k to 6.5k its just on and off nothing else (athere are some other parmeters though).
