How long's a piece of string.

I push my cars hard, but a bit of mechanical sympathy goes a LONG way!

I've got a 155bhp 106 GTi in the garage, atm. ;)

Will be for sale probably when I've tidied it up..

Like anything, it'll wear out quicker when used harder. It's not always that simple though. You could be lucky and never have any problems beyond replacing consumables, or your car might esplode. No doubt there's some mincers who never push their Clio at all. Not ever. Their cars won't be immune to esplosions though, or anything else going wrong. Luck of the draw really.

The dephaser will go anyway. Probably tomorrow.

Just be careful with 3rd gear, else you'll one day find you'll be having to match your revs more than normal

I never had any problems with my gearbox besides the shifter position being terrible, and the feel being awful. It was whining quite a bit on the overrun after 5 years, but I didn't experience any real issues, and mine was given death more than thrice. Overall it was quite a reliable car really. I had one or two warranty issues very early on, but nothing after that besides the exhaust falling off in Belgium lol.

Wait til the oil temp is up, not just water temp. Stick to the servicing guidelines (personally I usually halve all oil change times listed) and you should be OK. Dont mash the gears when changing as said above.
