172 and 182 cup

  182 Cup
Am I right in saying that the only performance difference between the 172 and 182 models is the exhaust manifold?? Im also wondering if it is possible to modify a standard 172 model to cup specification. Is it easy enough to remove the ABS?? What other differences are there, apart from the thinner windscreen which I assume is a straight replacement.

Thanks.

i dont understand you removing the ABS tbh, if you ask most cup owners its the one thing they wish they had (along with xenons ;) )

  182 Cup
Cup also has a wider track doesnt it? I dont fancy ABS, not on track anyway. They made cups in silver right? I really dislike the blue cups.

Are you getting the 172 cup mixed with the 182 cup? because they are completly diffrent.

The windscreens are the same thickness on cup and none cup models, the diffrence is the glass colour, only the side windows have slightly thinner glass.

Wrong, a proper cup, a blue or silver one, before options came in, had a lighter windscreen.

And to the thread starter, do a search, as there is a post with the full spec differences

And it wasn't just the manifold that gave 10 bhp, there was other tweeks, iirc map and cam spec.

172 Cups have;

Wider track (Due to ET38.5 wheels, nothing more)
Speedline wheels
Headlamp washers removed and xenons replaced with regular lights
No Abs
black cloth interior
No A/c (climate was optional)
Lighter glass
Slightly different springs and dampers over the 172
Came in silver and blue

Few other bits below

I thought the cup had stronger hubs to cope with track work too?

and no spare wheel in the CUP, just the gas.

And the brakes are more progressive for track work (and to work with the lack of ABS)

Doesn't the 182 cup come with abs and aircon as standard as the 172 cup doesn't. The 182 cups are a lot different to the 172 cup

Cupster

Different interior light (on early cups),
No 60/40 rear seat,
4 seatbelts only,
Less sound proofing,
Cup spoiler and splitter,
No engine cover,
Stronger hubs.

The windscreen between 172 & 172Cup is the same. Or rather it's the same windscreen as a normal Clio, and no thinner. Only the side glass is thinner. According to Fred at least.

You must be insane. Mondial Blue is a stunning colour. Silver cups just don't cut the mustard for me.

Renault say the original cup windscreen is thinner than any other model but i doubt if there any cups left with the original screen, i know mine's only got a poverty spec screen in it. I want plastic all round for the next mod

I will be tracking the clio whichever one I get, will the cup be THAT much better? sorry ive made a few mistakes, I have done a search on the differences and it seems theres alot of confusion across the board. Basically im in the process of selling my 106 rallye track car, its stupidly raw with no interior, cage with an lsd and fantastic fun to drive. Its going to be hard to find something a bit newer, more reliable and more desirable to drive that will still give me a hoot on the track as I have a trip to the ring planned in may, and will be driving to le mans soon after also.

Also, looking at mondial cups, they are growing on me....

right to clear things up

- 172 cup windscreen is off a 1.2 16V, nothing special about it

- the rest of the glass is thinner though (not sure on the rear screen though, doubt its different)

172 cup is 89kg lighter than a normal 172

track is different, and its more than just the wheels, 20mm wider front and 10mm wider rear IIRC

172 cup is 3mm lower than a 172, different shocks and springs

I dont even know what a ph-quick is? Im not making a track day car as such, looking something better out of the box, not planning on extensively modifying whatever I buy maybe suspension, decat and rs tuner?

Wrong.

Like i said, they have lighter side windows not thinner windscreens.

How rare are the silver cups? Whenever I supposedly see one for sale, it appears they still have headlight washers and leather seats which isnt right for a cup is it?

Can you not just take the fuse out the abs ?

Yeah apparently it defaults the bias 50/50, which in a car whos back end weighs about the same as a tin of biscuits, is a bad idea unless you like going backwards through walls.
