172 Clio vs 1.6 16v Clio

  Clio Dynamique 1.6 16v
Hello,

Already know the answer to this one, but how much faster is the 172 that a 1.6 16v? Are we talking a 1.6 would easily be beat, or would the 172 have to give it some to convincingly beat it?

Cheers

1.6 would easily be beet but it depends a bad driver on track in a 172 would loose to a 1.6.
1.6 is 110hp the 172 166hp so 50hp plus better brakes and suspension.

172 easy, 172 is a "sports" its better in every aspect, 1.6 has better mpg and prboaly more comfortable. depends what u want reali, no point in tunin a 1.6 to compete with a 172 cos its a waste of money.

Although found since having my clio 1.6 shes quicker than I thought, had a few tear ups with some vtrs and it matches them if not pulls slightly which is pleasing. Had a 1.0 before lol so this feels like a rocket!

Yea, obvious question lol. How but a normal 172 against a dropped clio round the twists?
Depends on driver Freds got a specially lowered 1.2 and on slicks it kept with a 172 on track and its quicker on the back roads as its so low. However both driven on the same tyre of tyes on track by good drivers the 172 even comparing a stock 172 with a lowered 1.6 would be quicker.

Most factory cars had 166hp. Its the way the French claim PS not Hp as well.

andy_con - Be careful what you claim.

Yea but theres no way I could get a 172 or 182 for ages, only 18 1.6 is pushing the limit in regards to insurance running costs etc atm, unless you want no other cash what so ever lol. Rekon the difference in speed between my 1.6 and a 1.0 would be the same as a 172 against my 1.6 that bout right?

On track Freds 1.2 is very quick running slicks, ligthened, and its very very low.
I don't think it will ever see the track again with its 1.2 engine though so its memory will have to be kept alive by People who remember it.

Not true Renault claim horsepower not brake horsepower, i have the renaultsport brochure in front of me. A CTR has 200ps which is 197bhp so 172ps is 170bhp

to calcultae ps to bhp you have to multiply the ps figure by 0.9863

so 172*0.9863= 170bhp when rounded
