Yeah looks a little far forward - check the metal clips on the back are fully on. Also there are two guides for the horn which can break under pressure - see if the horn works okay on both sides of the airbag.

Will look awesome make sure you go for the reduced plate on the front makes the front end look so much better
Ive already ordered a set of smaller plates, a mate of mine ran the smaller ones and a police officer pulled him over and gave him a ticket, i think its mental how the officer could tell, theyre not exactly that much smaller

They aren’t that expensive think mine was about 280 quid all in 👍
same here, not much money and make the car look so much better

Update Time

About time I updated this as a fair amount has changed since the last update, the car itself has been at Beaniesport recently for a health check and service. Whilst it was with him we had a conversation about the belts and decided its nearly due so may as well get them done now. I also had the Track rod ends replaced and Cooksport Springs fitted, thank you @mossyv6

I'm really pleased with how the car drives now, sits so much nicer with the subtle drop too. I was thinking about spacers just to finish the look, still undecided on that.

Today I removed the wheels to drop off at 'City Wheel Refurbishment' in Birmingham, I've heard only good things from these guys, so I'm looking forward to seeing the end result.

Once they're back on in a week, i'd like to have the car detailed or at least attempt it myself, does anyone know a good detailer around the Midlands?

Lastly on a slightly less positive note, the car will be up for sale towards the end of March, early April perhaps. So if you know anyone who is keen or would like a clean original 172 Cup, please share. A full advert will be up for it once it's finished in a couple of weeks.

In the meantime, here's a couple of pictures!

No, you can't sell it!

It's looking great, I'm pretty much copying everything you've done to yours. I've ordered my rear discs and pads, exhaust has just been fitted and I'm replacing dampers and springs next. Already have a Snappy wheel, but I've just got some De-Solv-it sticky stuff remover to deal with the weird ecto-gunge on all the rubberised plastics. I tried the soap and elbow grease method and it just spread the stuff around. It's really quite revolting.

I also have quite a few dents that need sorting. The crease on the driver's door is beyond the skills of a dent guy though, so a new door is probably required.

There's a thread or two running on Pistonheads at the moment about RS Clios and lots of people saying about how much they want one. You're going to have no trouble selling a restored and original Cup. I'd buy yours if I didn't already have one!

Whilst the wheels are off at City in Birmingham I decided to give the car a well deserved detail and clean all the horrible mouldy bits that haven't seen a sponge in years! I used Auto Finesse Shampoo, Autoglym Magma and Autoglym SRP.

The added bonus of having the wheels off meant I could all the inner arches too so it's now ready for me to seal the wheels and fit. The boot shut, door shuts we're easily the worst bits. I'm still having difficulty removing the mould around the window rubbers, any ideas?

Lastly I decided to give the engine bay a once over, I cleaned the carpet on the bonnet and on the bulk. Gave all the plastics a clean and treated them with Autoglym Vinyl & Plastics. I'm fairly happy with the end result. I'll be doing the interior once its back on its wheels.

I'll be ordering these last few bits for the bay at the weekend;
  • New Coolant Bottle
  • Type D Coolant
  • New Battery Terminal cover
  • New Oil Cap
  • New Wipers (Front & Rear)

Looks great! Did you have any luck trying to transfer the grill stickers? Be a shame not to have them.
Thanks mate. I did find a guy who made replica ones, however quite pricey. Rightly so imo, lot of work involved.

Update Time - Back on the ground.

So after what felt like the longest week ever, I had a text from City Wheels on Friday afternoon to say my wheels are ready. Whilst 'working' I managed to get out to Birmingham and pick them up, the results are exactly what I expected from what I've heard and seen from these guys.

When I got them back home I gave them 2 coats of Poorboys Wheel Sealant, and painted the wheels bolts with 2 coats of VHT Silver paint. I taped up the socket to prevent any marks or scratches, which... Surprisingly worked!

The only negative I can take from this is that I've misplaced a centre cap for one of the wheels. I'm confident I left it with the guys to paint match, but they cannot find it. So if anyone has one?

Here's some images for now, after a quick wipe down again. I will hopefully get out tomorrow and grab some better ones.

Update Time

I had some free time yesterday afternoon, so I decided to fit the new Bosch Wipers as the old ones had seen much better days and topped up the screen wash. I've also ordered a New Coolant expansion tank, New Oil Cap, New Expansion Cap, New positive terminal cover and Turini Centre Cap as I still cant find it... I picked up a Thermostat as well, mines not playing up but I thought I may change it for piece of mind.

Whilst I was tidying up a few bits inside the car, I changed the old silver rear belt to a nice clean black one, thanks too @YorkshireKyle

Following this I got carried away and cleaned, hoovered under the back seats and all around the boot space. It was rather filthy as I've been using it as a workbench these last few weeks.

I'll hopefully have some updates later this week.

Update Time - Coolant

Along with everyone else at the moment, we have quite a bit of spare time to work on our cars as required. So this morning I decided to make a start on changing the coolant and fitting a couple of smaller items brought from RPD last week.

First of the small task was to fit the replacement centre cap as I stupidly misplaced the other one. £20 later and it's back to normal. Following this I decided to change the positive terminal cover, I tried cleaning it endlessly but decided it's not worth it and I replaced it with new, really pleased with the result for such a small job.

Whilst I was doing this I noticed the support bar from the ECU bracket was looking rather sorry, so two coats of satin black VHT paint, looks like new again. I used this to give the bolts at the top of the rear bumper a freshen up, again not perfect but much better than rusty ones!

Finally the last job on my list was to drop the coolant, change the tank and refill with Type D. The old coolant really wasn't too bad, when I did it in the 182 the smell was awful. I replaced some of the clips with Jubilee items, please ignore the larger one on the tank it's all I had here, the rest are with the 182. I'll change this in due course.

Overall I'm pleased with the results, I've got a quick before & after image below. I've got one or two little things to tidy up but nothing major, I'll also be ordering a new bonnet catch as I noticed how dirty and rusty it is.

More updates next week, as I'll clean it again no doubt!

Update Time - All the small things.

A brief update on a couple of small jobs I've been meaning to do, I had some time yesterday afternoon so I decided to change the bonnet release as mine was rather old and rusty. Cleaned the glass inside and removed some of the residue from previous dealer stickers and tax disc holders using GTechniq G6, also coated all the interior trim again with Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber care.

I'll give it another wash this week, hopefully the oil cap & alloy foot rest will arrive to fit. I also need to find a way to remove the horrid green residue around the edge of the windows, I've tried to capture it with a picture but does anyone know how or what works best?

Thanks mate! I'm sure you will, it's just a case of time & effort. The bonnet catch I got was 'Item ID 114003488869, I paid £10.75.

I hope that helps, good luck with yours too!

Update Time - Side Strips & Bullets

I've decided to continue with the theme of small details making a huge difference. Today I decided to remove the side strips and bullets to clean and polish behind, the fronts we're certainly easier to remove than the rears, but overall a huge difference. Surprisingly how filthy it gets behind them! A very small, relatively quick job to do and well worth doing. I'm also debating on spraying the door bullets to freshen them up, do we have a factory silver code or a close match to buy?

I've secured a replacement radio stalk & upgraded door speakers from @colesy thank you, once the lock down is lifted I'll have these to fit.

Next week I plan on removing the rear bumper to upgrade the exhaust mounts and to clean behind, of course?

I'm now looking around and reading reviews for the best Clay Bar kit to buy as I'll attempt this next week too.

Anyway, for now - Pictures;
