172 cup vs Megane sport

  3 MPS
here is my 1/4 mile time in the megane

http://www.crailraceway.co.uk/select_run.asp?CarNumber=115&RunDate=20051113

here is the 172cup

http://www.crailraceway.co.uk/select_run.asp?CarNumber=74&RunDate=20050807

haven driven both now , i have no doubt the 172 is better thru the bends but the 225 with cup pack is not far behind , it handles like a bigger car obviously but is more refined and smoother , its hard to compare as they are different type of car

i miss the go kart handling of the clio (coilovers) but enjoy the comfort and styling of the 225 more , but then again im getting older . lol

thats my point m8, the 225 fills that gap between hot hatch and having something daft like a scooby. The time comes for all of us when we get a bit old to have a hot hatch as a main car (kids/dogs etc lol)

dont forget the tuning potential of the megane because of the turbo 270bhp from just a remap as you can see on jonnyboys car.

dont get me wrong id any one of them but from what ive heard the megane is built a lot better than the clio which is one thing that annoys me about my 1.2, rattles and bits braking (although mine isnt that bad compaired to some)

but out of them both id rather have the 225 because even if its just as fast it has they amazing looking seats and a lot more room.

My mate's standard Suzuki Swift GTi did a 12 second quarter at Crail !!!! pmsl. Must a been a fault somewhere me thinks.

Again its one of those swings and roundabout type topics. One thing that cant be argued with tho is the Megane has miles more tuning potential.

i used to own a mk1 172 and after getting old and sick of perpetual back ache from driving it i got a meg 225. For me the difference is in the way the cars produce their power and the way they handle.

i fitted eibachs to my 172 which at the time were the way forward in handling. The difference between the 2 is that although the meg feels a bit softer, the clio at the edge left like one more step and that dry stone wall would be making a quick entrance into the car, the meg feels softer but you can drive up to the limit easier as it doesn't feel so razors edge. and with the power you can drive fast with out ragging the meg, whilst with the mk1 172 it was banzai action everywhere, and the ktec hidden exhaust added to the effect, now i sit back a ride a wave of torque and worry bug eye wrx's that would have copst me twice the price to insure.

enjoy your cars guys, they are both fun, just depends what you want from them and bare in mind the the clio200 is on it;s way to ruin both out parties.

both ? dont you mean all three, reno said there wont be another V6 as the new RS will be better than any previous RS !

bold claim but what i would add... if the megane is for 172/182 owners who have maybe children/dog/grown up a bit and the clio is a speedy gonzalis..

what happens when the 200 break clio is out with only 20cm`s shorter than megane, full 5star ncap (although current clio and megane are still great) mixture of lower insurance i.e 16 and better build, spec and refinement and lower cost and most likely a 6 speed megane box with better economy due to lighter and no twin scroll turbo..

basically it will be an ideal car for all those who left the clio for the very vertues the new clio is bringing

right ?

no actually i meant both which is why i wrote both. The new clio 200 may be faster than the old rs clios and probably the meg, but i'm not geeky enough to look that up. However the v6 will always win in a pose down. (flex those intakes gents)

My wife has a new shape clio (ok only 1.4) and it isn't that much bigger than the old clio. This will be clio number 5, and i can't stop ribbing her that it;s just a micra with a new body shell :). But it drives well and she loves it.

Oddly enough it still gives me back ache. too much rugby and bad posture can be such a nightmare. You kids be warned.

PMSL, this place never changes. Its not a clio so it cant be quicker or better in the bends. lol

You need to get to a RS trackday for a few timed laps.

The sad thing is, the Clio isn't half-bad, but when you read some of the biased posts that are regularly on here (and indeed EVERY other forum), it isn't hard to see why others with an open mind find it so amusing.

If I think of all the other forums I've been on, those members that have the most respect outside of their chosen forum are always those members who're open-minded and able to see the positive and negative aspects of their car.

Regards

from what i remember the floor pan and suspension come from the micra as the platform was designed for both companies to produce a small car. i vaguely remembering something silly like the light position couldn't be changed between the cars. Something to do with legalities of light positioning etc.

I think the biggest compliment it can get is the Missus said "hmm it drives just like the last 4 of them"

Praise indeed from such a car clueless person
