172 Exhaust 2" vs 2.5"

So i've had a talk to a guy at John Ashley Exhausts in walsall about getting a new system from the downpipe back seeing as my current ones blowing at the centre section.

He's told me about an exhaust he's fitted to several 172s which has 2" pipework, he reckons the torque gained from the exhaust is unbelieveable.

However i'd heard that 172s benefit much more from a 2.5" system.

Thoughts please as it's booked in for thursday and i'm having second thoughts!

Im not doubting his ability to build a good exhaust or advise on exhausts as he obviously does it for a living and i don't. I just want to know what other people think about it!

think standard is 2.25"? dont actually think any aftermarket manufactureres do 2.25" systems for them do they? whats the supersprint cup racer exhausts?

my omp group n is 2.25" i believe.

there are some 2.25". A 2.5 is best if you're doing more to the engine. If the exhaust is all you're doing, you wont notice much difference

What sort of stuff would come into consideration on this??

Ive been thinking about Matched Inlets, A Decat, Enlarged Throttle Body & Remap But didn't want to go as far as iTB's, Forged Pistons, Cams Etc.

Well Maybe Cams :rasp:

So would i be better running a 2.5" on the above mentioned??

PS, Thanks for the tip on the oil, there was quite alot of sludge in there after the Forte did it's thing :dead:

It was private sale from a mate of a mate. But the message has been passed on. Theres a whole long story about the sale of the car which i could go into, but we'd be here all night.

Ill tell you when i end up having those iTBs one day - lol

Would pass on the ashley exhaust mate unless you like LOUD systems !!

iv had more Ashley exhausts than hot dinners lol, though i haven't got one due to the whole 2- 2.5 inch thing

oh if you do get it make sure you give it an extra coat of paint, or it will rust away within a year or so
