172 Mk1 OZ’s fit on a Clio 16v

Will the OZ F1s from a Mk1 172 fit on a 16v?

I know they will physically bolt on, but are the offsets similar, will handling be affected, etc?

Has anyone fitted any of these?

I might be getting some new wheels on the 172 in the next week. Depends what they look like when I view them on Sat. Only 16", not going for 17"s.

they will fit, but you will have the wheels sitting further inboard.

Net result is a narrower track front and back through changed wheel centerlines.

It CAN possibly affect handling, but to the extent i dont know, you will be reducing teh scrum radius of the wheels and the steering offset. ots over 10mm diff between the 16Vs 36mm and the 172s 48 so thats quite a diff. You will change the way the car responds mainly in turn in and how it responds over bumps etc....but thats only in theory.

That offset of 48 for the 172, is that a Mk2 or Mk1 though? I thought they were different between Mks but have never really managed to get the precise figures?

Cheers Lars, I checked my spare last night, and as you say, the offset on a Mk1 172 is 43. As the 16v has an offset of 36, assuming the phase 1 16v wheels are 7" wide as well, the wheel will sit in the arch 7mm closer to the body. Is it worth trying a 5mm spacer? Or just not bothering with spacer and/or wheels?

If you want it for the track Jas, id put the proper wheels for the car on there. Otherwise your losing performance before youve even started. Cornering is half of racing round a track 3,4,5mm mite be ok on the road but it adversely affects the handling which really becomes apparant on the track. As I found out when my mates valver was cornering on rails and mine wasnt and I couldnt keep up. Now have standard rims back on though and handles much better than even the old wheels spaced out to the correct offset.

Spaced wheels also tend to flex and move about a bit too much for my liking.

No not me Ben sorry. I remember seeing a pic of it tho.

Must of handled like a bag of poo if the wheels were just bolted on. And scrubbed well also, if the wheels were even turned slightly.

where can you buy spacers from? Do people still sell these?

hmm, they were well inboard werent they!

in terms of geometry, its your scrub radius that your mostly affecting, which in laymands terms is the "feel" you get over undulations on the road. Or sensing the different torque from each wheel.

Spacers, id not bother......really, unless it a few mm like 2.

Have you not checked the ET yet?

ok, so Im going to try Johns 5mm spacers and see how it goes. If handling screws up, Ill put the original wheels back on. Will report back after I give it a good thrashing!.....
