172 Non cup ABS removal - who has done it

  172 2003
I searched and it's been asked more times than I can count so Id like to get a definitive answer from people who have done it.
Starting from scratch,
172 cup master cylinder, new brake pipes, associated unions and a Wilwood in car bias valve.
Any problem with the car starting and driving with ABS completely removed aside from speedo not working and various dash lights on?
Peoples input and experience needed so it can be done for good and put up as a guide

Thanks

Speedo will still work on a 172 as is reads from a sensor on the diff housing on the box, 182's read from the N/S abs sensor,
@Mash. seems to be having issues on his car at the moment doing the same conversion

Not all 172's take the speedo reading off the box mate. Some still take it from the abs rings as they have jc5 130's fitted. It's the later 172's though that I've seen.
@Cub. has had this conversion done and I think it was @Dan@SJM that did the work.

Yep, it's later 172s and 182s that have speedo from the ABS rings. 03 onwards reg had rings I think.

Mine is a 02 plate so has speedo box. As Mark said, I had my setup swapped for a cup set up.

Issues are - brake warning light on, so your MOT tester needs to know the rules (I.e. If every part of the ABS has been stripped out, then it should pass light on or not). Other issue is the cup bias mean it can fail on MOT tests for rear brake efficiency. There was a VOSA notice that covers cup chassis numbers to say they're fine, but the 172 chassis numbers differ.

Again, all fine as long as your MOT tester isn't a pleb.

Other than that, starts fine, drives fine. Brakes better on track ;)

Thanks mate
Was hoping I'd get a few sensible people with some input rather than people saying Death, 50-50 brake distribution etc etc

Yeah I've had a bit of a pain with it all, but it's sorted now.

Coupled with a s**t bias valve, dodgy compensator valve and me being used to braking with abs - and not having to use to your foot as abs.

Other than that it's sorted I believe. I've got no warning lights from my conversion, I'm using full ph1 loom and dash etc and haven't had a problem with that, and again ph1 jc5-129 box so speedo signal is from the gearbox.

@CUB how much effort do you require to lock up your front brakes? as I know you're running 4 pots too?

Has anyone managed to sort the issue of having the various dash warning lights illuminated after removing ABS? Or is anyone still having issues with it? I've sat for the past hour tracing wiring diagrams because I don't want the same issues on my car, and think I might have found a non-pikey solution that doesn't involve taking bulbs out or covering them up, but have no car to try it out on as mine's currently in bits without any wiring connected up lol.
