172 or 172cup

  172Cup
Really itching to buy one of these now after spending the last few days checking pistonheads/autotrader etc....
Obviously the standard 172 has more creature comforts than the cup version but my question is.... realistically will there be any difference between them on track/ 1/4mile times etc....

I'd ideally love a Mondial Blue Cup but the lack of xenons etc is making me have second thoughts as this will have o be my wifes daily drive.

Opinions welcome and appreciated.

Am I right in saying the Cup has no ABS?

As Fletch says not much difference in speed but a 172 is a nicer place to be.

Cup has no abs, no traction control (not that any Clio needs it), no climate contol (a few have aircon though), no xenons, no spare wheel, and cloth seats.

Monaco Blue looks better than Mondial Blue IMO

As Tim said have you seen monico blue? But I would go for the cup, a normal 172 has a lack of cup spoiler!

I drove my Cup to work everyday and it put a smile on my face, I love the fact it has no ABS and T/C it's like a little go kart and when I test drove it I preferred it over the 172 by a mile.

The main thing is though if you get a Cup you'll have to like it or you'll soon get peed off with it.

  172 cup
are you a) drive the wheels of it kind of person or are you b) I could go fast if I wanted to but not really bothered person

a)= cup
b)= non cup

unless you actually are some sort of driving god, just get a 172 with the toys.

Better to have them and not to need them than need them and not to have them

NO WAY.

I'd pick a cup! better wheels, spoilers, suspension, slightly faster, special edition (kinda). Also the average joe wont know that a standard 172 is a sport, whereas the cup looks a little bit more sporty lol. Then again you've got the gash seats and no air con.

Monaco is great colour.

Not a fan of monaco myself, dark/navy blue is just too broing. If you are getting a normal 172 get a flamer, easily the best colour on the 172s

WTF did they wax that Monaco with?! Unicorn semen?! Outrageously clean.

Depends what you want from the car really. As your wifes daily I'd recommend a 172.

If you get a cup you'll turn up at places sweating from the lack of aircon and with an erection from how much more awesome it is to drive.

  Megane 225 F1
If you drive a 172FF you turn up with a blonde chick sucking you off as she is cool via air con.

You don't need to be a driving god to appreciate the differences, lol.

I've driven a standard 172 and it was fairly boring compared to 172 cups and ph1 172 I have driven.

I've always thought the ph2 172 is the worst of the bunch.

I have just deleted all my "clean pics" after that monaco blue WTF that pic is amazing. get a 172 for the comforts, cup for track:approve:

  172 Cup
172 purely for the fact your wife will be using it 99% of the time, but if it wasnt for this id have a cup over a normal 172 any day.

Had 172Cup for 5½ years, loved every minute of it. Now have a 182 and glad I have that...if you've never had a 172/182, then you don't realise the toys you're missing...if you have, then it purely depends on whether or not you are replacing the interior (for comfort), and also if you like creature comforts (such as Climate Control, Traction Control, ABS, side airbags (most will have spare wheels by now) and Xenon Lights, Auto lights and auto wipers (and Cruise Control on later 172s). If you've never had it...you won't miss it. :)

If you get a 172, factor in £150 for a set of eibach sportlines, they turn a s**t handling car into an awesome one. I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I first got my clio... Wallowy unresponsive and totally anti climatic. Fitted new springs at the weekend and wehey, world of difference - tight, sharp steering, just about perfect imo, now I can actually attack the road with confidence - still slight understeer *yawn*, but NEARLY as good as my old 306 gti6

If you consider the car to be several years old, then the suspension, bushes, etc would have worn down over time. I wouldn't say s**t...not perfect, but then its aimed at the masses, not a select few when originally designed.

IMO a Ford Focus or Vauxhall Astra are aimed at the masses. The Renault sport brand prides it's self on handling, power ect, Not something everyone wants. From the 5 & Williams right up to the 200 each handles well within there age group.

Both the 172 and the Cup are going to have seen better days but i doubt your Mrs will give a toss about that. My Mrs would want the 172 with creature comforts, she's not arsed about the weight saving carpet or 0-60 advantage. She'd counter this by filling it full of crap anyway.

172, I have a standard monaco and love it! Its still quick and I don't really notice that 0.1seconds from 0-60.
But I love the xenons, climate, nice seats and cruise!
You'll love it and so will she!!
