172 owners with no spare wheel

  Ph2 Clio 172
What do you do?

I sold my 5 172 wheels and got a set of 4 F1's. But that means I am now down a spare. I can take a can of tyre weld, but I know from experience that if I muller a tyre that cant be fixed with it, and I don't have a spare when I should have, the AA/RAC will only tow me up to 10 miles to the nearest garage, and wont tow me home.

What do people do? Have you run with just a can of tyre weld, or do you get a steelie or something as a spare?

i run around with out a spare - had a massive blow out on the M5
the aa sent out a mobile tyre fitter for me, i though ah bugger going to get raped for a new tyre

cost me 55 notes fitted and balanced for 16s

tyre weld is pants btw

Yeah, I know I could just buy another wheel.

The trouble with the AA and RAC is that if you should have a spare and don't and the issue you have could be solved by having a spare, then they effectively just move you out of the way and leave you, regardless of your level of cover (I know this from experience).

I run without with the tyre weld, as Renault intended really. I initially thought about getting a spare (& have a spare set) but don't see the point in carrying one about - its all about the weight :)

Many many many new cars now come with no spare wheel,

Just carry a couple of cans of tyre weld, but you MUST have the jack in the car at all times.

On average you get a puncture every 50,000 miles

Just look after your tyres and stop worrying about f**k all.

I've removed mine and was relying on my AA cover if I ever had a puncture. I'm on the family cover and dad pays something f**king ridiculous like £200 a year because he's been with them since 1989 or something stupid and never shopped around. I didn't know about the ten mile rule. However, from past experience, I'm sure slipping the guy a tenner or twenty for his time will soon sort out the ten mile rule problem... "I'll put it down as a flat tyre and also possible suspension damage sir so we'll tow you wherever you want"... :)

It's not about wether you do or dont have a spare, its about wether you should have one. Thats why 182 drivers are fine, they are covered, but as a 172 should have a spare, if you don't have one and get a puncture, the AA can tell you to jog on.

My spare, jack and back seats are all in the shed, I use the force and so far it's working fine for me.

Once i've saved enough for 15" Pro Race 1.2s i'll get 5 of them, then go back to having a spare,
a 172s spare weighs a frigging tonne!!
