172 rear discs and pads

  2004 182
Never changed any brakes before but fancy giving this a go as it sounds simple. Anybody ever had trouble getting old ones off? Any tips or hints would be appreciated. Thanks

  Many.
Nice and easy, 17mm carrier bolts, slide pad retainer out after removing carrier from car, and the small clip holding the retainer. Disc is centre 30mm nut, when refitting, that nut needs to be torqued to 175nm.

Check calipers sliders move freely.

Absolutely no problems at all. Especially the rears.

Lightly slacken the hub nut with the car on the ground.

Jack up

Wheel off

2x 17mms on the pad carrier

Get the hub nut off fully

Disc off

Wind back the caliper piston using a screw driver

New disc on with the disc spacer the right way round. Torque up (not sure how much, I do about 175nm)

locking paperclip type thing on the pad carrier off, slide out the bit it holds in.

Pads out, new pads in

Carrier back on, maybe with a touch of loctite to be safe.

Wheel on

Car down

Pump brakes

ZOOM

EDIT: Damn you @AlexW. At least I got the torque right

Your instructions were much better tbh.

No real need to loosen hub nut before jacking, just make sure car is secure and you have a decent bar.
