Final_Maxim said:probably cheaper buying a written off 172, side/backend or one thats been rolled. strip it down, use brakes, suspension, engine, box etc, sell the interior and anythin salvagable. work out cheaper
cat171 said:Persoanlly i'd save the money and buy the car that the engine actually came in
By the time you've messed about having an engine conversion & insuring it its prob cheaper to just buy the 172
I know a lot of people moan about insurance (not you) but it'll work out cheaper in the long run.
The only conversion that is worth while is the valver/willy conversion, mainly because the engines look alomst identical.
cat171 said:Mofo - I do understand about the sleeper idea (I didn't realise you were talking about that idea tbh ) & if your serious about it & have the money to do it then I would go for it:approve:
As FM says you'll need the brakes etc as you want it to stop. I know of some people who shove in a higher powered engine into a car thats not meant for it & leave the brakes etc
Final_Maxim said:do it yourself, its only a few bolts and a few wires lol
Either get him to post it or rent a van etc and drive there and back I assume your in the Uk if so you'll be there and back in a day. There more than just the engine you get there the gearbox radiator hubs shocks driveshafts ECU/uch a box of wiresMOFO said:yea thats what im after, only matt is miles away from me and you cant really deliver a engine
he said he wouldnt fit it for me as he no longer does that
Talk to a local tunenr or garage see if they want a job its basically take the dash off and engine out and put the 172 stuff in.MOFO said:

Yep engine crane a good garage with a 4 post lift would be better.MOFO said:ok, is it hard to diy, also ill need a crane wont i, how long should the garage take? would they buy my old engine?

No idea how long a garage would take depend uf there fitting the job in or doing it in one blokc. Matt Black and his mate did one in a day once.
Matt and his mate did have a proper gareg with all the tools and 4 post lift though and had done them before though.MOFO said:a day, fooking hell,
will call some garages tomorrow.

Ktec I think will do the conversion and GDI did one. Most Renault tunners would be up for the work I'd imagine. Not sure about Yozzasport but I'd imagien they would do a conversion.
Its as reliable as the quaility of the job. You've basically got a 172 so its as reliabl as the doner car. Also remember you will want to chnage the cambelt clucth and bushes before the engine put in so thats £250 or so extra in parts.MOFO said:good stuff, ill giveall my locals a bell 2morrow,
would it run ok or would it be very unreliable?
