172 wont rev past 5,000rpm

clutch went and locked the car up, jammed starter motor @10/15mph.
now clutch has been fixed but car wont rev past 5,000rpm.. it sound like a limeter/backfire.
the dephaser is tapping..
no fault codes..

back street garage suggest jumped cambelt!.. renault said no it cant be without warning lights..

booked into renault monday at 9am to see if its worth spending £1000 on cambelt and vvt..

I bet it has slipped a belt. I wouldn't be driving this.

Timing belts triggering warning lights? Renault really do shovel it sometimes - Deffo a high chance its slipped the timing and done some damage. Start by locking the bottom end up at TDC on No.1/4 and pull the camshaft end caps out to see how far out of horizontal they are.

turned out to be a connection buy the clutch cable on the engine thou.. the mechanic musta broke it and just put the 2 cables on the pins wrong..
