172cup or 182 with toys??

hey peeps, havent posted much on cliosport but have been on a read many posts for over a two and a half years, basically ive had 3 mk1 clios a 1.2, a 1.4 (we all have to start somewhere) and a valver which i sold a couple of months ago (miss it like hell) ive been driving an e36 328i sport,which is brilliant in every way, but i just miss the renault magic, i test drove a 172 cup yesterday and it put a massive smile on my face! very very impressed with the way it went aswell, so i am now after one the reno bug is back! the beema is great but not much character to own.

but i cant seem to way up what to go for, a 182 with cup packs and toys, or the stripped out 172 cup which will feel much raw, and i think quicker, i love both cars in there own due to there differences exhausts wheels etc, but find it hard to make a decision, i live in the country which basically means b road heaven to go into town, now straight away im thinkin cup! but for the days where you want to just cruise about the 182 has the toys climate etc much easier to live with, anyone who has owned both or drove them could you please give me some advice, sorry if this has been posted a million times but i have searched and havent found the right answers. thanks J.

Theres no right or wrong answer. If you can live with cloth seats, no air con, no abs etc then get the cup if not then the 182 is for you.

I would go for the 182 with cup packs as I think it gives the best compromise between performance, handling and toys

I sold my beloved 205 1.9 Gti (with a full Skip Brown engine conversion) for my 172 Cup....it was just awesome

But......when the Racing blue 182 Cup 'wit stripe came out l fell in love and to be honest theres not much in performance terms between them....l mainly went for the colour change and the ESP/traction control/ABS........'cause l'm getting older and wiser.......a bit

Or get a 182 and rip the back seats out, put Suzukas in the front and whack some light weight 15s on it. Or do that to the Cup if you're crazy (tis what I'd do )

i had this dilema! just sold my cup and gone for ff 182 with both cup options , i love my 172 cup and its soo much fun but i had the choice and went for the little extras , the cup interior did really bother me being so basic but thats the whole point of the cup ...i'll let you know when i pick up the 182 next week ...but im sure i will still be smiling!

to be fair mate, the ff isn't that much different to the cup! if you like leather and toys then buy the 182, if you prefer a s**t interior then buy the cup? :rasp:

Also depends what car your coming from. I dont have any problem with the seats in my cup, they're luxury compared to my old Escort! That didn't have leccy windows, mirrors or anything!

More toys you've got means more to go wrong too, and when gettin belts changed add more labour charges to rip out the aircon etc.

Plus the Cup looks the dogs as standard hence all the copies (182ff with cup packs anyone )

the only reason i said id get a pasting is cause there are loads of members on the site with ff 172's with turinis, spoilers etc. i just dont see the point, why not just buy a cup and put some ff seats in it. defeats the point which ever way you do it.

182 all the way, all the cup looks and handling, better wheels twin exhaust which really does set it off to me and the most important bit..........its 0.2 quicker 0-100!!!:rasp: (wow?) If u get a cup your gonna lock up in the rain and sweat your meat and 2 veg in the summer. The decision.... is yours!

You have to have turned the headlights (or sidelights) on for them to work! Just pull the stalk to wash windscreen....but make sure lights are on.

Sorry i disagree, i own a 172 cup and chose it over any other varient because its raw and feels like its made for one thing... and thats what i wanted. Each to there own and all that, everyones different thats why this argument will never be solved. But it had nothing to do with finances at all for me, and i guess many other people on here?

172 cups are proven to be the fastest variant it's the only mk2 I'd have .....even if a Trophy was available for the same price.

I bought the cup before they came out, but to be honest probably, even tho (i know im biased) the cup is the original and i dont think the trophy is that much better? The only thing against cup's compared to trophy's etc is there older IMO?

I bought an FF becuase I wanted a well specced car that was nippy. Not a poorly specced car that was two tenths nippier. Horses for courses.

Cup does look better, but I've addressed that on mine.

182 and the 172 cup are both good choices. i like the exhausts on the 182, give it a more sporty look. tbh, there isnt much difference apart from the fact the 182 has toys which is why i bought it. do you need air con?
i want to get ollie to take me out in his cup (if he reads this ) so after then i can form a better opinion! just look around for either, and get the best bargain? both good cars though!

(btw i am talking about the 182 with both cup packs)
