182 36k service.? in comedy shock horror...

  Shhh
Got joanne to ring my local dealer this morning, got told a 36k service is £386... :(

So, i ring them back as its a normal service plus Aux belt. Service manager said its £199 for the normal service, then £186 for the Aux Belt..

Then he said its £18.99 for the belt, so that must mean a whopping £167 to fit a Aux Belt.??? Oh come on...i said...

He said it takes 2.1 hrs to fit the belt, then i said i could do it in 30mins with a 15mm spanner as i fix aeroplanes....

He said he will ring me back tomorrow as that sounds like its cam belt time too, tho me thinks he will come back with a cheaper price.

Now, been thinking that i should get some renault parts, and whip the car round to the local car garage to get them to service it. The car needs new disks front, and new tyres on the front. I know renault will more than likely insist this is done there and then, tho ive known about the disks for months as im tight with cash. The tyres are above limit, tho i like to change them early so i know im safe..

So, do i push the dealer for a better price, i was thinking of £280 ish for nice renault service, tho id have to fend him off for the tyres and brakes..

Does a Full Renault Service History matter tho.???

Anyone know how much 182 service parts cost?

Cheersy

I'd go to GDI or simialr for the service for basic service which is £150 or so then see how much they want fr the aux belt.
Chnaging the belts a bit of a pain unless its a Cup I'll send you the guide if you PM me your email address Its not easy the Renault way says remove bumper and driver headlight but you can do it without removing it all.
Do the brakes your self its dead easy £60 for disks and £40 for pads.
Parts are cheap £7 for a filter £1.10 for the sump washer then what £30 for oil.
As for the value of a proper service hsitory wouldn't bother me I'd try get money off regardless of who'd stamped the book so any saving might as well go in your pocket and think about value later on.

  Shhh
Emailed GDI about the service...but no reply.

I forgot to mention i have 26 mile till the '1,000mile' extra is over...unless we can work the paperwork out etc...

Parts alone =

Oil Filter £6.94

Sump Washer £1.06
Air Filter £12.87
Oil £23.49
Aux Belt £16.03
Cabin Filter £?.??

Not inc vat..

Im asking FRSH, or FSH...

Ie, get renault to do it...or the local garage round the corner.....

apologies missed the R off.... I would want FRSH.......

Not because i dont trust local garages, but i know that when it comes to selling people 'prefer' main dealer history, so it makes it easier to sell.

Stealers are a joke. Had my car in the other day for some work on the heater and they phoned to tell me that a headlight bulb had failed. Out of curiosity I asked them how much it would cost for them to replace it.

Well it's a fiddly job sir came the reply, so with parts labour and VAT aprrox. £40 - 45.

Fiddly job!!! I did it myself that evening in 5 mins for less than a fiver!

I would only use a stealer if the job required special tools. Otherwise any competent local garage can change oil, filters, discs, pads etc. My advice is to stay away from stealers and find yourself a good local garage. IMO what you save will more than compensate for small reduction in the sell on price as a result of not having a full reno history

It took renault 4.5 days to do my 36k service!!!

in the end the smashed a belt tensioner, ruptured the aircon system just to mention a few problems!!

oh and i heard today they have called the administrators in today!! HA

I would rather have my mate (a trusted mechanic) service my vehicle, the first 2 services were carried out bu renault (6000 and 12000) the 24 and 36 by my mate, he stamps the book with his work stamp which is mercedes, would you buy a renault with a mercedes service history?

slighty off topic

when are the services for the 172?

My car is around 39,000 miles now, should the 36,000 mile service applys to 172 Mk2 as well?

yes, there every 12 k miles up to 60 k or 3 years. so you have missed your interval,

no one should miss a service as it invalidates the warrenty...

lastly, once again i will pass on my service experience, 36k service at local indy garage. brilliant service, reno bits(or official replicars) 120 quid all in!!!

you do the maths....

i had a look at my local dealer, was quoted £194 over the phone yesterday and they couldnt get me in until the 17th May for a courtesy car, and on the renault online it was quoted at £165 and they could get me in next week. Left me slightly confused!

Can't believe some people take their cars anywhere near main dealers.

My uncle (mobile mech) will do me an a 12k service for £20 plus the price of a good oil (trade). Renault in Beckenham charged me £189 the next year.

Where's this? Vardys in Durham?

I wouldn't go anywhere near that garage. When I was looking to buy a 182 the customer service was awful, they hadnt a clue what they were talking about and tried to rape me with their finance "deals"

I'd rather travel the extra miles to Benfield in either Gateshead or Newcastle

  Shhh
£246 was Crystal Renault in Boston..

Best i could manage with parts and another garage was £180. So i paid the extra, think it was £235 in total...

Have to find the receipt..

Is that £20 because its family rates?
Also that woun't include for a new sump washer (£1) an air filter and oil filter (£14 and £7) plus a polen filter (£25ish).
When you start adding it up you say £30 for oil then £50 for filter etc the parts alone are £80 then its say 1.5 hours labour and garages charge £60 an hour then all that adds up to £170.

Plus garages give you a coutesy car a wash usualy etc.

Theres more than just an oil chnage at 12k have a look here

Thats what your uncle if he's stamping the book is agreeing hes checked as part of the service is say the ball joints failed then Renault would refuse a claim as it should be checked as part of the service and most garages won't check it.

I've just had my 54K service, it was washed and vac'd out. Courtesy car included all for £148.00 Really, really can't understand people moaning about the prices if they want to keep the FRSH.

Jesus, that is a shocker considering I was quoted £350 for an inspection 2 (the large one) service on my ex M Roadster (M powered car too) from a reputable beemer specialist.

Thats cheap when you think the Merc dealership who used to service my parents A and E class used to charge £500 for a 2 service. and it always needed extra bit bills were £700 a time I think.

  BMW 120i Sport
I must admit a main dealer wanted £400 for labour alone, parts brought an inspection 2 up to ~£600-£700 for an M car. If you need discs/pads/tyres on top, you're talking over a grand.

I'm getting my aux belt and alternator and other bits changed under warranty. I am due 36k service in about a month, so I have never been so happy that the clio is always needing repairs.:D

U dont hav 2 get your 182 done at main dealer 2 keep your warrentry intacted it just needs 2 b VAT reg company, so your local mech would do better job & cheaper :)

£245 for 36k at Gravells in Kidwelly, takes me nearly an hour to get there and I pass two other dealers inc where i bought it, but at least they know what oil they are supposed to put in it.
Dealer I purchased it from has filled it with 10w40 which I made them change as they should know better and they have tried to fit 195 conti's on it as well. Wont be going there again.

Whats wrong with 10-40 the Renault spec says so long as temps don't drop below -20 deg C then its fine for use.
