182 banging when pulling away?

most of the time when i pull away i get a bang from the car and you can feel it on the clutch petal , i have checked all wheel nuts and there all tight! its also makes a noise in reverse. but when running forward after the bang its fine, done 238 miles and it was fine! any ideas? thanks rob. p.s hope this works as i am posting from my mobile!

It might be your engine mounts.

tried rocking the engine and it seams all ok and looking at it when i start the car it looks look there is not too much movement!

sound like the bottom engine mount. mine went on my 172, absolute bar steward of a job! (yours will be under warranty!)

sounds like that strut problem??...(i take it that problem was on the 182s aswell?) mine had similar, get it down to the dealer for a spot of warranty work...
As soon as you mention the banging in reverse they'll more than likely know what it is (although they might not tell you that

You'll need Sunwin Renault on Amy Johnson Way which is off Squires Gate Lane - pretty much next to Blackpool Airport.

Just thinking out loud, but the ABS self test makes a little bang when you set off after first starting the engine..? You definately feel it through the clutch aswell. Just a thought.... Hope you get it sorted and enjoy Blackpool!!!!!

It'll be either the strut tops or the ABS self test (or both).

I think that actually the noise that you hear when you reverse is the strut tops, and the clunk that you feel through the pedals when you move off forwards is the ABS self-test.

My Trophy has done the same since brand new.

Either way its nothing to worry about, just enjoy Blackpool!

I know that the strut tops catching is a very,very common problem that gets discussed a lot on this forum, and that a lot of people think that the ABS self-test indicates something wrong when it is, in fact, perfectly normal.

I would have thought that, as you point out, you would have noticed these before now.

back from blackpool now, it was the gearbox mount that had gone, but i am still getting a banging when pulling away! (only from starting)

It went in the the garage in preston (sunwins) Very very good in there!

Will probally be the sub frame mount.

Mine used to bang. But then again i did have 3 broken mounts lol

mine did it when accelerating (too) hard in first, fixed itself though, 2 years later not noticed it since

Dont know if the 182/172 engine would be similar to a 1.2 but my gearbox bont went on my 1.2, the gear box was pulled back that much when accelerating that it ripped the one bolt out and most of the thread with it....got quoted £300 for a new box so instead got the next door neighbour put some insulation tape around the bolt and it managed to grip on the slightest bit of thread left and i part x'd to reg vardy....

mines has always hed a little clunk since new when reverse, manovering and pulling away. U can feel it throught the clutch. Theres also a noise like someones pinging a very tight string. I thpught poss clutch cable
