182 Brakes... Options

Ok my car goes... but doesnt really stop IMO.

Part of the reason is that the pads have cracks due to a massive build-up of heat @ brands and @ the ring.

I know of the yozzasport option (brembo discs, performance friction pads, braided hoses).

Are there any other kits / options out there?

I want something that can take the heat... without compromising day-to-day driving.

Set of lines, pagid fast road pads and standard discs. IMHO

Brembo 4 pot kit...£1200 rrp iirc ?

Im running the YozzaSport kit which is good on track/road and from cold but the brake dust is a bit excessive lol and bite is aggressive but nice :) I would get the braided lines regardless but maybe try different pads if you arent planning on many days at the ring or on track..

Id get some better calipers personally. The 182s brakes are very good but for track work there not that good. I only had to drive my Williams with 4 pots back to back with the Trophy to realise how good they were.

4 pots wont be cheap (£350~400 Id guess) but they wont wear out disks or pads out so long term wise there excellent value.

Trust me on this one.

Get DS2500 pads from Tweeks (ask the Cliosport man for discount) same performance as the pagids and cost lot less. Under £100 i think.

Brembo (hi-carbon) front discs from GSF £60 plus del.

Equally important is to bleed the brake system (fluid type not major important). Everytime you do a track day or Ring trip bleed the brakes so the fluid in the calipers in fresh fluid.

Done this front and rear - 0 squeal great from cold (wintertime especially).

If you want hardcore then go from DS3000 pads. (little sqeal not great from cold but excellent when hot). PF pads are good but 145 expensive and hardcore like the DS3000.

This setup is the best compromise and works very very well.

Unfortunately, this will eat-into my lightening budget... but Id rather stop, than lose weight.

Ill go for pads & hoses first... and see how it goes.

Discs are ok (apart from their blue color!!!)... will give the DS2500 pads a go first.

PS will they work ok on std discs?

Mine are on standard discs, all OK. Brembo discs are just standard OEM replacement discs and at 60 quid i would recommend them.



You want be disapointed..:)

Im currently running the Goodridge Hoses, with a set of Mintex Race pads, with standard discs. And dot 5.1 fluid. Huge amounts of stopping power. Only down side is that they do tend to squeal a bit.

Worked perfectly @ Brands last week, without a hint of fade, or soft pedal.

seems something changed when they made the 182 and they f**ked up a bit from what 182 drivers have told me (ive driven a couple of 182s), the standard setup on my 172cup worked a treat at the ring, brands and oulton park. Theyre dead now but theyve been on for about 10-12,000 miles and seen that track time within it plus 50 miles of hard driving everyday.

not sure what route im going to take myself now though, the goodridge hoses might just be enough?

Hmmm... interesting one Chris.

If you look at the 182 wheel design... they dont offer as much cooling as the Turinis...

Does that have anything to do with it?

Good point omar...i have been thinking about that recently.

...Anyone know how the cup racers manage to do lap after lap without experiencing massive fade? must be the air cooling ducts and wheel design?

Quite possible.

Tbh for road use the 182 brakes are stunning. (IMHO)

But for both road and track its hard to find a comprimise DS2500s should do it.

massive air ducts, plus they weigh a lot less than a road going car

plus slicks have a lot to do with braking performance

Im in the same situation, Omar. I want to brake later and harder on track days. I think regular brake bleeding is important, as well as replacing parts. For brake bleeding does anyone know the right sequence for a 172?
