182 cup suspension; have U really got it

Following the thread about the 182 cup suspension tyres (are they actually the same as the non-cup tyres?), has anyone actually measured the wheel track width? Has anyone measured the spring rates or damper rates?

ie All those people with "cup suspension pack" may actually only have got a slightly lower car with painted wheels (the only visible signs)!

how do u check tho, is there a way ? to get thins measured etc how much is that going to cost?

i must admit it has crossed my mind but i dont know of any way to look at it and be able to tell, 10days till mine come! :D

A 4 wheel alignment check along with castor and camber checks should highlight whether or not you have the option. Problem is, you may need someone without cup option to compare with. The garages may not have the settings for either car on their charts yet!

How do they do the wider wheel track?

They change the springs and dampers granted but what changes the wheel track? Are there different parts on the rear beam (eg spacers?) and does the front have some sort of different (thicker) hub?

Is it a different steering rack (if U need a new one is it a different part No)?

Uh oh! I hope this doesnt turn into a PE2 situation.

As for wider track..., do the offsets differ on Cupped and Standard alloys?

Hmmm.. thought Renault decided not to change the wheel track in favour of the PE2 with stiffer side wall. Im sure im right on this.

I was told the track with CUP option is wider front and rear and that the alloys are painted (ie the same otherwise). If so there must be extra (spacers) or different parts to achieve this.

Either the CUP suspension is fundamentally different, or its not all they promise!

why not ring reno and get part numbers for cup and non-cup 182 suspension parts - then check them?

Yes, good plan for anyone with a 182.

It does show that anyone who needs parts for the 182 in later years has to be very careful they get the right parts (especially 2nd owners etc). eg after crash if new drivers front hub and rear caliper are replaced, have U remember to specify cup option as they may be different!
