souns like the clio sport sheep are in the house

Because a trophy owner has said its better then a cup the is it so obviously better

TBH i have owned a cup and driven a trophy

So what if its cheapers
so what if it has cheap materials
So what it does have Recaro seats thats make you sit so high your nealy out the roof

You find me a car that is as cheap and as fun you'll be lucky

Trophy to me wasnt as nice as its made out to be, found the suspension hard and unfor giving found the seats made me sit high up, when i like to be lower to the floor.

Looks nice dont get me wrong its a track day car tbh and should be left there lol

182 cup everyday car and huge amounts of fun

the seats sit 10 mm lower than 182 cups, recaro's or 1.2 seats.........hhhmmmmm

How does this some it up?:

Breaking it down, the cup was just a no thrills 182, an awful lot of car for not a lot of money. that is never a bad thing!

the FF's were for us people that like our creature comforts

and the trophy's were the track ready 182?

anyone's welcome to refine this list

Just want to point out that the Trophy is a 182 cup with better suspension, lower, more supportive seats, lighter & stronger alloys, heavier and larger spoiler, different geometry and only came in red.

Every Trophy started life as a 182 Cup!
It was not intended to be a track special, it was designed for the UK market as a special for our b-roads. Switzerland and Mexico got jealous, switzerland getting 50 examples, which nearly half of which went to Japan. Mexico got a car called a trophy but was in fact the standard Cup called a Trophy.

There you go, now you have some fact to base these opinions on rather than hearsay and 10 minute test drives.

This wasn't a marketing ploy, the lack of launch publicty tells you that, it was a last horray for what is probably the best sequence of small cars ever, 172, 172 cup, 182, 182 cup and 182 trophy, all are cracking cars. Reno, the press, every owner evem Clarkson stated the Trophy is the best of the bunch. All with the same chassis and (virtually) the same engine..... there's only a fine line between them....

Stop dragging this pointless arguement up. The facts tell the story.

Where did the picture of the broken down Trophy go? Did someone get upset because their trophy isn't as reliable as the 182Cup? lol

Cue what are you playing at damping down the argument like that?

Trophy's are quite clearley the most advanced version of the front wheel drive F4R powered clio's and quite rightly so.

The clio MK1 1.8 16V was a superb car in it's day but you don't here it getting half as much praise or respect as the williams does!

And I'm afraid it's going to be the same with the cup/182FF/Trophy.

As for broken down Trophy's, for every Trophy that breaks down I'm pretty sure there'll be a dozen other 182's suffering the same fate, shear numbers alone dictate that.

And you'll probably find it will be engine related, you know the same engine thats in all 172's and 182's?

The trophy is 'limited edition' and this may be the reason for the extra cash. It is also a one off colour of capsicum red.
The Recaro seats was supposed to be a unique seat, but then Renault offered them for sale at £850.

The seat option was available before the Trophy was announced. I bought my cup with recaros about a month before the Trophy was launched. Being honest - I wish I'd known about the Trophy at the time as it was a bargain until Evo started singing it's praises - you could have had one for discounted cup money due to dealers not really knowing what it was.

I can't believe that no-one has talked of the benefits of the shiney cup badges on the doors of the 182 cups that put the fear of god into Porsche drivers at trackdays all over the UK.

Hardly any of the 182 Cups actually got delivered with the door badges like they where supposed to remembering threads on here from the time.

Mine has the door badges :)
It also has the RenaultSport badge on the steering wheel :)

If some off you think the 182 cup is a pointless car then whats the point off a 197 cup surly that must be pointless as well then.

Must have been lucky then! The only thing mine was missing was the Elf sticker from the rear window, and I wasn't exactly crying over that!

I can sort of understand the 182 cup is pointless in the second hand market, but when new it made perfect sense. Still not worth debating IMO.
 
I have 182 Cup door badges on my 172 Cup.

Never noticed until Mike at Rentech noticed it lol

I dont even know what they look like lol!

Had a 205 1.9 Gti...then a 172 Cup....and now a 182 Cup.

My 182 Cup is the better car.Why?

1. Well l love the looks (and so do most people who see it as its a stand-out car in RB with stripes).
2.Its as much fun as the other two...but safer,faster and as good on juice.
3.As it is raining everyday in Manchester it is faster as l don't have to be as careful when going round a bend...l have more confidence in its stability.

Point 3 being a wuss? Nar...my mates Jetta went round a roundabout as quick as my 172 cup in the rain....as l was sideways !!!!

I would prefer to have a Trophy rather than a 182 cup or FF, regardless of the higher price.

I just love the limited edition run's (;))

Im glad there are so many trophy haters...meant mine was easier to pick up when i brought it.

do none of you realise, anyone dissing someone elses cliosport is dissing their own car??...they are all so so similar!

why not write about clios being much better than its rivals? Not being better than its identical twin brother which has a different seat!

No one has really slated the Trophy though have they? A few might have said that they don't like red cars, but that's as far as it's gone? I personally love the concept and reality of the Trophy. I'd love to drive one to find out just how it feels on that suspension set up (hint, hint - please...)

No one has slated the Trophy, if anything its the other way around!

It's all a bit of light hearted fun anyway, some people take this site too seriously! We all own French sh*t boxes lol.

and i thought the stripes on the racing blue was just gaffer tape holding them together!!! learn something new everyday........ theyre all quality fun cars and we all have different tastes and money situations. if we all had the same car in the same colour with the same spec how good would they be then.???? no chance

Sorry to drag this one up, but I was looking for a 182 FF or CUp and did a bit of research,

Have to agree with the above in a sense. Ultimately the 172 Cups will be worth more than 172 non cups (given like for like) as they are more focused, more weight saving etc etc.

Whereas as a used buyer I cant see any reason to go for a 182 Cup over a 182 FF. If they had ripped out the sound deadening and put on a set of turnis, then I could see the kudos that would give it a better used value.

I suppose the second hand market illustrates all this. Trophy is v desirable, as is 172 Cup and 182ff. Whether they are 'worth' the premiums is debatable as they are all decent cars, but the 182 cup seems like a low cost 182 whereas the 172 cup was a more focused car in its own right.

That said, if the deal is right, the FF extras don'r really bother me and I will buy a cup.

I don't have the original weights of 182FF vs CUp, but am assuming we are talking a few kgs difference.
