182 Disappointment!

Went down to Stafford this morning to pick up my brand new 182 as Id ordered it through an internet company and was picking it p from a compound. When I arrived the guy said to me that it had to go into the Renault dealer yest at 5pm because a light on the dashboard came on and they had to connect it to the computers to find out what the prob is. Said that if all goes well, then they will deliver the car to me on Monday. Well pissed off!

Has any 182 owner had this initial problem and if so what was it?

Toypop had the same problem i think. It delayed his car by 1-2 weeks approx.

Not sure what it was though.

Seems to have happened to a few people. I’m not too sure they like being moved around on the trailers at strange angles.

Strange that....did they damage it and it has had to go into the bodyshop to get the ding out??..... I should check it over very carefully.

Yup exactly the same happened to me. It was at a distribution centre at the time so it had to be shipped down to a Renault dealer in Southampton for fixing hence the long delay. Was a simple five minute fix apparently, just a matter of resetting. Guess the car just got upset about being tilted around in transit.

Trouble is whilst being transported to the dealer or whilst sat at the dealer they smashed up the front spoiler, got paint on the door, scratched a dashboard insert and nicked a can of tyre weld! Its going in to my local dealer on Monday to have that lot fixed.

I work on a big site that is now used by various car manufacturers as so-called distribution centres. Basically, they store hundreds of new cars here waiting for owners. BTW, Renault also have a place here.

You should see the way that the monkeys that work there drive. They dont use the clutch or the brakes, everything is foot flat to the floor in 1st (from cold, of course) and then handbraked. Absolute 1st class tw4ts!!

They also have a bodyshop on site and you should see the number of brand new cars that keep going in.... and then 2 weeks later some poor owner never realises that their 8 mile brand new car has had to have 2 new wings, a bonnet and some headlights!!!!

Mine had done 25 miles before the delivery guy drove the 100 miles up from Southampton. All in all 125 miles in other peoples hands.


Made me wonder whether it was worth wasting my time running the car in for 700 miles or whatever given that its probably been shafted already.

Done 300 so far, would it do it any harm if I just drive it like hell now?

Given what might have happened to my car in the first 125 miles and given that my car is going into the dealers tomorrow, does anyone think its worth me asking for an oil and filter change and whats this likely to cost?

Dunno how long I will keep the car yet but if it doesnt break down or give too much trouble I would consider keeping it longer than three years.

Its done 400 miles now by the way.

It won’t harm, I always like to make an oil change quite soon with a new car as there may be little bits of metal floating about in it.

Does anyone know what EXACTLY happens to the engines at the factory?

You constantly hear claims that the motors are run in on a bench etc but to what extent are they run in on a bunch? How much revs, how many miles and do they change the oil following the bench run in? I dont want to spend £80 or how ever much it costs for no reason...

No m8, Im not at Stafford, but I think its a common scene at most of these places:-(

I know a guy who used to put the thatcham stuff on a well known japanese manufacturers cars at the docks as soon as they arrived, and he reckons the same sort of behaviour goes on there as well.

looks like it some of them end up worse than just a dent. looks like this car has never even seen the road for more than 20 secs.

I had to pick my car up from a farm yeard in Stafford, couldnt believe my eyes at first!! I was bricking it too as the roads were so narrow.
