182 ENGINE IN 172

Is there any issues putting a 182 engine in a 172?
Need to replace the engine in my track 172 as had a catastrophic failure.
Would prefer a 182 engine for the better exhaust.
I think the engines are basically the same unit but hoping someone here can confirm or has already done this?

They are the same apart from the manifold.

Just pick up another second hand 172 and stick that back in as for the exhaust or just manifold .

i think you still need to use the 172 inlet manifold

You have to chop the midpipe to fit as the 182 manifold is longer IIRC.

Depends what you want. The chances of finding a lower mileage 182 lump is better than a 172 imo

as above, mine has a 35k 182 engine in it (its a 105k 172)
