as we speak the car is currently in renotech chelmsford for an mot and service.

they just phoned up with a few issues. one of them is not an mot fail but the exhaust mounts have gone.

am currently on my phone so have limited access for forum searching. but are these easy to replace your self?

ive done things like pads and disks all round. oil change. spark plugs so i am handy ish with doing things my self.

Exhaust mounts are easy peasy. If the rear ones are gone you can fill them with tigerseal to get them "uprqated".

Support the exhaust up with a plank of wood on a jack. Soak all 6 bolts (3 on each hanger) with WD40 or similar and they should come off. Simple job matey, just tough getting the old bolts out if they're seized. Have a look when you get the car back.

cool thanks chaps. the garage said they use proper renault ones which are £27 each and with fitting the total would be £70.

these upgraded ones, can you link me up where to buy them? or even a renault part number so i can just get renault ones?

cheers

the link above is for the uprated exhasut mounts from prima.

Failing that i wouldnt bother paying renault prices just to get a standard one as you will have to "uprate" it yourself using tiger seal or the socket method - i would get some cheaper ones off ebay for this.

I have an ebay special on mine with a socket and it does the job for under a tenner (172)

Cheap ones will last forever if you fill them with sealant. You can even fill your shagged ones and they will be fine!

ah i now understand how/what an exhaust mount does.

does the internal part NEED to be rubber? i have a milling machine and am thinking about milling a nice bit of aluminium to go in there to do the job.

yes - there needs to be some give in the mount - just not as much as they have as standard!

have a read of the guide when you get to a pc and that will give you all the info you need

they're easy until the bolts snap LOL

Yeah one of mine didnt snap but the securing nut somehow came loose (must had been a corroded weld or something) meaning the bolt just kept turning, had to dremel it off (was an excuse to buy a dremel really) - just take your time when unscrewing them and they should be ok
