182 exhaust probs again !!!

right i had my centre section replaced under warranty, anyway they did it and when i got there it had not been put on straight, so they then take it back and try to straighten it, which they do, but i notice its now pointing to the left !!!, they then tell me it cant be adjusted anymore !!!??? and what did i expect, so i go home after speaking to everyone there and nobody gave a sh*t.

then a few days later i notice the exhaust sounds a little noisy, so i look under the car and were they joined it (coz they have to cut it to join them together) there is water dripping from the joint (with exhaust running) so i put my hands over both tailpipes and the exhaust smoke comes from the joint !!, not fukin happy, i also note that the cat is also wonky i.e the back part is pointing further down than the front.

so i go to renault, and guess what they say, we can straighten the pipes (funny thye couldnt a few days earlier) and we can straighten the cat, but the joint is going to leak because its been cut !!, they take it on the ramps and yes they straighten the pipes and cat, but say theres nothing they can do about the joint, speak to mamagers etc and nothing.

now WTF do i do, should the joint leak,ps the joint is just before the backboxes

Honest answer..... Stop messing about and get an aftermarket system.

Renault answer.. Tell them to get it sorted or you want an entire new system that doesnt leak

yeah take it back to renault and tell them you want it rectified, its not acceptible to be returned in that condition and they should know that. Speak to the service manager and if he is not forthcoming with offering to put it right then say youll be writing a letter of complaint along with getting a report from an independant exhaust centre about the state of your exhaust to send to Customer services. See what he has to say then.

i spoke to everyone at the garage and nobody gives a sh*t, they all same the same thing !!!, i need renault customer service address/phone ??

yeh been there and done that 3 times, but if he wont do anything what do you expect me to do !!!, the f**kers are crap, this last time i went in with the lads (not on purpose but i just happened to be passing with them in the car), and they were going to politely persuade him !!!, these are big lads too, but the f**ker still did nothing, in fact he hid after that.

i need someone at renault customer service who can help me with this problem.

lee, is your doing the same then !!!

I had my exhaust repaired several months ago after they adjusted it because it was knocking against my bupper, which I did not ask them to do. As they did that they cracked the exhaust by the single box in the middle, 16 weeks later I got a new middle section. I did notice water from the joint, but not any smoke. I will be looking at mine again, but I suggest you got to an exhaust specialist and get them to see if all is alright, which I will be doing.

I did that last time with the first problem, went to reno and told them in front of other customers and they did not have a leg to stand on.

So the moral of the story is to embaress the service manger in front of other paying customers into do what YOU WANT

182blue, sounds like theyre giving u right hassle mate...i would be tempted to take the car to an exhaust specialist and have them put it right then forward the bill to Renault?!

My 182s 5 months old and the exhaust is in a worse state than that of the standard system on my 1980 mini!! Its blowing in two places and the baffles have broken down in the centre section which is causing some crazy sounds!! Was going to take it to Renault to get it fixed but not gonna bother now...seems more hassle than its worth!

...soz to hear bout all your problems mate, hope you get it sorted asap!

The water driping is just moisture that condenses during the night inside the pipework as it cools down, the smoke is just steam that evaporates as the exhaust heats up gradually from cold

By the sound of things they havent welded fully round the new section they have put in which is just poor workmanship so the exhaust fumes are leaking out part way down your system

Presumably your exhaust was the original system ie a works exhaust which will be one long piece rather than a replacement reno item that would come in sections

Reno must have twisted it all slightly replacing the centre section thats why it sits wonky

Sounds like yet another case of crap reno workmanship - so frustrating to hear but not really surprising

Im bemused! They CUT your zorst? So far as Im concerned, Reno should replace like for like under warranty, not a half hearted measure. I dont care how they supply replacement parts, if the car comes with a single piece exhaust, then Id want it replaced with a single piece exhaust - its not like the part doesnt exist!

Id take the car back and tell them to SORT IT OUT! PROPERLY!

Pete id hope the same, but reading on here they have never fitted full exhausts to cars not just clios. The only full exhaust you will have is what comes with your car.

they dont do single piece exhausts for parts, and if they did they would have to remove the axle on the back becuse of how they have designed it, so yes they cut your exhaust and butt it up to the new bit with a sleeve and then this clamps around both sides, there is no welding and no proper exhausts.

anyway after them adjusting it yesterday it appears to be ok noise wise, it still leeks water etc, but the noise level seems ok, im going to ring renault and try get something done.

i hope you never get the problem then, coz they wont be able to please you.

they will not put a full one piece system back on your car as a replacement, it isnt available to order as a part either in one piece.

beleive me in nobodys fool, i have tried all i can at the dealers and thats all they can do

drive to renaultsport france to get a full one? then agian even they would have to remove the back axle.

how long is the standard exhaust going to last do you think, with average use?

Yeah, mine is doing something similar. If I get round to washing it tomorrow I might pop my head under and see which join us leaking. I assume its leaking as its a lot louder than it was last week.

I got almost 9k out the first exhaust, and thats 240 miles per week to and from work and the rest pleasure!

  182>FRS>VX220 now 350Z

Mine lasted 5,500 miles (5months or so).....just going to replace it with a Prospeed jobbie :D

  Scruffy blue 182

Crazy, if they make it that way in the first place! I would have thought that the cars came from the factory with multi piece exhausts if thats what Reno were shipping as spares. It just seems daft to me to have to cut the exhaust to fit a replacement part. If the car was shipped with it in sections in the first place, then they wouldnt have to saw the thing in half to fit a replacement!

Forgive my ignorance about the back axle - its too cold and wet this time of year to be lying under a car.

  Scruffy blue 182

oh - and PS - Ive got 9.5K on mine, so expect my rant to start soon when I need a new one....

  Ford Fiesta

less than 10K out of a (suppose to be good) exhaust on a sports car which the exhaust is one of the new features?

wtf is going on? should last many, many times longer than that, seriously a standard exhaust, about 100K??

  182>FRS>VX220 now 350Z

Yup its shocking but thats Reno for ya!!

182blue, Prospeed is located in Cardiff or you can have a system fitted at GDI in Cambridge....think they are around £450 ish, this is for a full system with a silenced de-cat. Ive been assured that they are not too noisy and will be bearable at motorway cruising speeds.

  182>FRS>VX220 now 350Z

Same as mate, hopefully getting mine done mid january as further development has been taking place to reduce boominess...should be a nice improvement over the whistling/rattling/leaking/vibrating excuse for an exhaust i have at the moment!!

  Ford Fiesta

and bang goes any warranty or will renault not care if you change the whole exhaust?

  182>FRS>VX220 now 350Z

Liam, dont really care what Renault say...as far as im concerned the part im replacing will obviously not be under their warranty as it will have its own lifetime one as it will be made from stainless steel....anyways the exhaust will probably last longer than the car! lol.

If the car did develop an engine fault they could possibly try and blame my modifications as a result but in reality its highly unlikely!

182blue, im in Bristol but have connections near GDI in cambridge. Someone on the forum (Tom i think?) has a H&S exhaust on a 182.
