182 Exhaust - Warranty?

  tiTTy & SV650
Well I've got the car booked in for Friday as the exhaust gas light is on, inspecting the exhaust looks like the rear silencers are rusting through, due to water ingress I think / water collecting inside it, anyone had a warranty for this reason?

design flaw?

I know they're not the best but I dont want to buy my Blueflame this month, cars done 26k miles from new 2 years old and its been mine from new, will I get a warranty replacement?

Cheers, Rory

hmmm, i can't answer your questions Rory, but i may have to go and have a look at mine aswell as mine is 3 mths off being 2 yrs old and has done 25k... doesn't sound promising. :(

I think the exhaust has a 1 yr warranty iirc form what i have read before. but i may be wrong.

yeah 3 years but exhausts are wear and tear...

saying that shock absorbers are wear and tear and they've warrantied 5 shockers for me due to a design flaw.

Therefore I shall play the engineer and argue its a design flaw, I live in Scotland they put salt on the roads, if salt residue and heat and water mix you get rust in not a lot of time...

Dropped mine off today to get the exhaurst sortted, its over 12 months and they are doing it under warranty. I think if its obvious that its not wear and tear then they will do it..

cool cheers Nez, i guess my argument is yes its wear and tear but its been accelerated by a design flaw, i.e. it holds water.

If you read the warranty booklet and understand it your a good un , lol .

Under Renaults anti corrosion warranty its says that " Mechanical elements such as alloy wheels and exhausts are NOT covered " by the anti corrosion warranty .

But it sounds like it is up to the discretion of the dealer with Renaults agreement as to whether these parts would be replaced taking into consideration mileage , age , condition of the car .

So in other words 2 people with similar aged cars , mileage etc ..... might get 2 different outcomes from 2 different dealerships .I guess it depends how good / helpful the dealership wants to be .

yeah im not expecting it to be covered billy, just looking for people who have had warranties for similar so I have some backup.

cheers.

yea but the anti corrosion warranty is for the main part of the car normally exhaust come under or mechanical warranty shall we say.

^^^^ In other words mate the exhaust isn't covered under the anti corrosion warranty , but if the dealership has the opinion that it has failed prematurely then they will replace it , bearing in mind there are good / helpful dealerships and shall we say some not so helpful dealerships .

I'm on my 3rd system under warranty as you know Rory....but mine was faulty from day one as teh flange was fitted upside down from the factory!!

well im on2 my 2nd cat and the car is under 12months, i think ill be needing another replacement quite soon as its starting to sound the same as it did before! take it to renault and just see what they say. if they say its not covered just get ur blueflame if not, try and claim a complete system if they cover it with warrenty!

  Turbos.
They know the 172/182s have exhaust problems so getting it sorted should be no problem. I would rather ask the dealer for cash equivalent though!

I wonder how much it would of cost Renault to design a decent, stainless steel exhaust. I'm certain it would of been cheaper than the amount of warranty claims they've had.

will see how i get on, getting a blueflame anyway now as per the group buy thread, here's the reason:

Rory. You have some rust on a mild steel exhaust after 26k and you're b*tching about it .

Come ashore.

mine is similiar age and mileage to rory's. mine looks like it has a bit of rust but nothing to that extent.

i'll post some pics tomorrow when its light again to compare if you like?

my 205 gti had a standard exhaust on it for 11 years, 67k miles.

renault decided to make a nice feature of the 182 exhaust but chose to make it on the cheap.

Damn, glad mine does not see to many wet days!

Rory - how many winters had that exhaust been through? A friends dad was moaning about his recently aquired Merc the other day which was supplied origionally by a Scottish dealer, the whole underside has lots of rust, he blames the extra amount of salt your guys get on the roads up there due to snow etc during winters, and says he is never buying a car from Scotland again! lol

I would! Exhausts these days should last longer than that, yes you will always get a bit or rust but not that much!

Got a call this afternoon about mine, It now needs a new center pipe... and guess what?! They are out of stock! Should be sorted on Saturday. Two weeks I've been without her now... :dapprove:

And mine has only done 6k!

well its 2 years old so has seen 2 winters, salt is more corrosive in warm weather, so coupled with the water that sits in the system, it killed it in no time.

Honestly looked spot on 3 weeks ago and now this, shocking!
