182 Heaters not working (Climate Control) - HELP...

  Clio 197
Hi all,

I have the no heating issue which seems quite common on climate control equipped cars, the climate control display functions correctly but there is no air blowing out of the vents.

I recently bought my 182 with this issue and the previous owner told me this fault was diagnosed by Renault when plugging it in as a fault resistor pack under the scuttle panel. I have removed this from the car and changed the MOSFET but this has made no difference.
I also tried the bridging wires 1&5 on the connecting block which didn’t have the desired effect of putting the heaters on full as I have read on here it should do.

Now I am at a bit of a sticking point and looking for any advice, I have visually checked all fuses in the cab and under the engine bay and they all look fine (I don’t have a puller so I did it visually with a torch at each one in the cabin). I am unsure which fuses relate to this, any ideas?

I am desperate to get this issue fixed so I can enjoy my 182 ;)

Any help appreciated, I have provided a few pictures below of my setup in case there is anything glaringly obvious wrong.

Thanks

Yep, bridging those like that should have it run full once the key is turned.

Fan motor gone?

I usually take the motor out of the housing spin it by hand and give it a good dose of wd40. I do this approx every six months as I am too cheap to buy a new one.

Have you affirmed power at the motor?

The motor is held in by 2x6mm or 8mm bolts at the top of the assembly. You have to remove the additional bit of black plalstic trim at the top left of photo above to access the bolts. Motor pulls upwards and out.

Mine is usually good for about 6 months of use before it pack's in, becomes intermittant until it stops altogether then I have to repeat the entire process again.

Be careful on reassembly as the bottom locating lug of the motor assembly is easily snapped off.

Thanks, Sounds a pain to have to keep doing that every 6 months!

I plan to get my multimeter out tomorrow to check power @ the motor - what is the best way to do this?

Hopefully the weather is dry tomorrow so that i can check a bit more to try and narrow down whether it is a relay / resistor pack or fan issue (plan to double check all the fuses again) - out of interest, where is the fuse puller located? I assumed it would be with either the cabin or engine bay fuse box , i think mine may have been lost

I had this, went through same process and it was my blower motor at fault.

£15 postee off a breaking car on here and job done. Been spot on since.

I will keep my fingers crossed, hoping to get to the bottom of it tomorrow so I can order the part. Will report back tomorrow !

Yesterday I checked all the fuses in the cabin and all the engine bay. ALL OK

So I moved onto checking the power supply on both the resistor module (track 4) – fine, however when I checked the power supply to the motor (track 1) it was only showing 6v (with ignition on). Now the information I had suggested that if this is the case then the relay will be at fault, I also checked track 30,85 & 86 which checked out – I pulled the relay and the motor was still showing 6v –How would I check the relay further?

This thread is the one I have been referring to

Will do, i wish all this wet weather would pish off - its hampering my investigations :)

On second thoughts about the relay , the fact that when i removed it and checked the voltage at the motor again and it still was showing 6v (when relay removed) - might suggest the relay isnt the issue.

I will check the bottom of the motor when the weather allows and report back (fingers crossed its a loose connection or something easy!)

Thanks Pete

Right just got back from checking the motor , confirmed 12v to the base of the motor , also tested it off the car with no result. So the motor is kaput.

Will start hunting for a working 2nd hand one

Resolved this :)

Sourced a working motor, loom and resistor (thanks Adam.) replaced the motor and it was running at full speed all the time so I knew it was resistor pack related (I had changed the resistor in the pack but must have messed it up, I did have issues with removing the solder).

Changed the resistor pack too and the climate is back working . Thanks to CS my membership has easily paid for itself with this little fix :)

A replacement Field Effect Transistor (FET) for the climate control resistor pack can be bought on ebay from ukmac-electronics for £3.59 + £1.60 postage this item works a treat :), this is the item description of the FET[h=1]HUF75344G3 MOSFET UltraFET Fairchild 55V 75A N Channel TO-247[/h]

Yes i am aware of that, i replaced it to no effect - must have been some dodgy soldering
