182 top end tickng noise, any suggestions

  182
Hi,

A couple of months ago I bought a Black 05 clio 182 with 75000 miles, so im new to this site and to clio sports!

when I got the car home it sounded like a diesel and it was running quite rough on idle, I was soon advised that it was the dephaser pulley that was the proplem, there was a also a small fracture on a weld in the scopion exhaust that was making a ticking sound, the fracture was quikley fixed and filled up but I still had the ticking noise as well as the noisy dephaser so I forgot about the exhuast as I could put up with that. I eventually got the a new dephaser and belt fitted last week and the this solved the erratic idling and nasty sounding rattle :) now this is fixed the ticking noise that I originally thought was my exhaust is coming from the top end of the engine :S

As for the ticking noise, it is there hot or cold and on idle, it just goes more frequent along with the revs and does not go away, it just evens itself out the harder you rev it, I have now been told it could be the hydrolic lifters? I also replaced the oil (5-40) and the filter as soon as the new dephaser was fitted

could these be the problem? anybody had this ticking sound before? :banghead:

  Clio.
I have a clio here at the moment with a ticking noise, its worn the cam lobes in a strange way.
About .5 mm deep on the base circle has worn away.
I'll pop,a pic up later of how I saw it looking into the oil filler/rocker.

I have just listened to it and it does sound louder around the drivers wheel arch and under the car =/ maybe this is why i thought it was the exhaust. To be honest I have not heard of the carbon canister before now, if it is this, what can cause it to make a ticking sound? Thanks.

  Clio.
A solenoid on top of the canister, there is a little 2 pin plug going into it, disconnect it and see if the ticking stops.

I have just had a quick look down the oil filler and the cam lobes look and feel ok. Thanks for your reply
