182 Tyres - Sidewall stiffness

  Renault Clio 182 Trophy
The offical blurb states that the Cup and Trophy have tyres with stiffer sidewalls. Is this a feature of the PE2, or just the version fitted to these cars. If the latter, what are the identifying marks?
Also any idea if it is possible to find out on a factual basis what other makes of tyre have similarly stiff sidewalls

In the end there was only one tyre in that size and rating, all 182s got the same tyre.

  182 w/busted splitter :-(
There were apparently two versions of the PE2 - one with a Green Spot one the sidewall and one with a Red Spot.

It's the Red Spot ones that have the stiffened sidewall, these are the standard fitment on the 182 and Cup.

Also, the only PE2 you can be now from a Tyre Dealer (so my firendly local Tyre Dealer tells me) are the ones with a stiffened sidewall; whether they're spotted or not, all the aftrnarket PE2's are the "stiffened" variety!

they definatley aren't stiff, i know that much!! horrible tyres

Don't listen to him, he just forgot to put some air in them ;)

Best tyres i've used, and have coped quite nicely on the trackdays i've ran them on too.

Bibendum still has his head on mine after a two full days and two evenings on track plus 7500 miles on the road so sidewalls must be stiff enough. The tyres need replacing now, but they've worn very evenly.

The spots were for balancing.

They can't sell two tyres with exactly the same badging and put a coloured dot on to make out one is different to the other.

Renault confirmed that all 182s had the same tyre in the end, and Michellin confirmed they only made one tyre in that rating.

The other one people have been using is the W rated version in the same size.

Best tyres I've used also.

A friend of mine who races Westfields reckons the sidewalls may be too stiff for such a light car, especially for the rear.

yea, its just an extra load version of the PE2 which is commonly available.

There is only one version of the PE2 in 205/45 v rating..

It was Michelin / Renault marketing HOKUS POKUS bullshit..which backfired as everyone has found out..!
