182 update list connects2 crackle sound

Bought an iPod specific connects2 for my iPhone and plugged it all in. Can use all the controls correctly just don't get any sound on any playlist apart from a crackle?
Now there is a black wire that's not doing anything on the connects2 plug...does this need earthing or?

sounds like a faulty item, all wires should be connected to plugs that come with it, pics?

It's just a black wire with no trace colour. All I get on every playlist is crackle. Thought maybe faulty item but I bought it brand new...

Guess these things do happen
