182 - Which panel filter?!

Car  182 Cup, Octavia VRS Tdi
Hi

This is my first thread, I've just joined today. I am the proud owner of an 05 182FF with the cup packs. I am really pleased with the car, its not as quick as I imagined, but the chasis feels superb.

I've had a look through this site and ebay and decided I'd like to fit and forget a panel filter. :)

I have the following to choose from.

ITG
K&N
Green
Pipercross

Has anyone tried any of the above, do any one filter give a better performance gain than another?

Has anyone actually carried out any performance testing with panel filters on the rollers?

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Cheers

New Car

I believe the general opinion will be that ITG filter is the best. And its very easy to fit.

Some of the other filters require cleaning with special products etc etc.

PS I use the ITG panel filter, never had any problems with it. Fitted and forgotten.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I've been looking on ebay, but haven't seen an ITG filter on there. Do you know of a supplier?

I'd like to see a pic of one too tbh. :)

I think ktec sell them. I got mine second hand off here, you might want to wait a bit and see if another comes up. If you want a new one there about £45 delivered.

The cars not as quick as you imagined: maybe just not used to the 5k kick and waiting for 7k to change gear (if you want to go quickly that is)?

When I first got mine a mk2 golf gti owned me cause I wasn't used to where the power band was etc.

ITG gets my vote

Yea even then I wasn't amazed. That said it doesn't feel that much slower than a CTR. I don't think it would keep up with my bros ATR mind. Like you say it needs working to keep going. I was probably expecting to feel more torque with it being a 2.0l. Plus I drive a Tdi day to day so thats why it didn't feel that quick.

Any idea what the 0 - 100 is?

lmao2k - Thanks for the link!

Because ITG have magical cotton that just makes dirt evapourate ??

They're all the same mate, you'd NEVER tell them apart other than the labels and colours. Not worth doing as a "performance benefit" either unless the car in question has filters that are really restricting things.

The only other thing they're good for is that they're reusable (they all need cleaning from time to time) which means you don't have to replace it come service time.

It's probably not as quick as you imagined because it's not quick, 17 seconds to 100 is the number on here.

My 182 feels quick, plenty fast enough for me anway! lol! :rasp:

Lol, I just get used to having some mid range. You can't really feel the kick either in the bigger gears. Its the handling that has impressed me the most, in the dry that is. :)

cliokhunt - So you reckon any panel filter do, and that there is no difference between them?

Right is that a tested figure? I bet evo tested the 0 - 100, might see if I can dig an old mag out. 17 secs isn't really that quick is it. The clio must be fairly heavy then? Any idea on what 1/4s a standard one should run?

Hi Mat

I see you have some rather special bits on ebay. :)

Is the 172 filter the same as the 182?

The filters are not all the same, as someone has quoted.

Standard is paper.
ITG is foam.
Green is cotton.

My brother and I swapped filters we both drive 182s, he tried my Green filter and I tried his ITG filter.

The outcome was, I got my filter back a.s.a.p. and he binned his ITG to buy a Green Cotton filter.

I brought the Green as I know people than run them on big power subarus so knew they'd be fine for the little 172 with no maf/hotwire issues involved.

Had mine in the filter box for around a year now and is still fairly clean...easy to knock any debris out unlike the ITG which is covered in 'treacle'.

I actually run a green on my ibiza tdi. I was suprised that ITG was the name pulled out the hat for these cars. And now I have missed my chance on ebay with the green. Dam. That said Green usually go hand in hand with French manufacturers.

Maybe ITG got a shout because a big tunner like, say, Ktec decided to sell them first? Thats speculation btw. :)

I think your right...there must be some reason why they have such a reputation on here as being the filter to go for.

172 and 182 filters are the same.

Except early 172 filters (pre facelift) which are not the same. I think they are a cylinder type, and not a panel like later 172 and all 182s.

My Green filter has been in my Iceburg 172, Arctic Blue 182 and now in an Inferno 182. I like to get my monies worth lol.

Spot on

Phase 1 RS Clios have a cylindrical filter unlike the phase 2 172 & 182

I belive the cylinder filter is supposed to be better than the phase 2 one (no acoustic valve present)

Poopercross lol

Don't know what they are like but I'd personally stick with Green or K&N for panels

I know but poopercross is pretty good...I think I'll use that in the future for describing Vipers :D
