182cup needs new engine... 200 swap possible?

  artic blue 182 Cup
Hi all,

I recently changed my timing belt and it broke after 3k miles. I'll probably kill the mechanic who did it, but first I want my daily car to be fixed.

Since I need a new engine, I was looking for a swap to a 197/200 used engine. If the g'box can be addapted that would be great too, of course, but my main concerns are:

Does a 197/200 engine fit straight into a 182?

If it does, is it plug 'n' play, or do I need some electrical guru to get it all working?

Finally, is it possible to fit it with the 6 speed gearbox or does it require a bit of cutting or something of the like for it to fit?

I have used the search first, but I only found useful this, which isn't even a full swap, but a 172 with the 197 intake manifold: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/show...r-200-engine-fit-in-a-182-and-if-not-why-not&

Which also points you into the main thread of the aussie who did it: http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?429435-mods-from-down-under..&

Cheers! :)

There is a guy selling a 182 engine at the moment mate. You might have a problem with your location though as i'm sure it won't fit through the letter box ;)

Unfortunately, I would like to have it around Madrid, Spain, which is where the car will be fixed (hopefully). Shipping could be costly from UK...

Fred, a bit more light into that statement, please?

Thanks both anyway. ;)

Fitting the 197/200 engine would a ball ache. Off top of my I head I can forsee you having issues with fitting gearbox and ECU

GB maybe, but ECU would just need rewiring. Wouldn't be too much of a hassle if you knew what you were doing.

But, does the gb fit -fact-? or just maybe? has somebody done it before?
Regarding the engine, I was aware of the wiring problems, but has somebody done it -again, fact-?
It would be great for knowing the actual problems I am about to face.

Cheers!

Didn't someone fit a 197 engine into their 1*2? Or was it just the inlet? Either way, someone did something!

there's a thread from an aussie who adapted the inlet of a 197, but I haven't found anything else through the search function

I'd go for a 2.0turbo froma a megane, a 1.8 VW or a CTR engine instead...stick with a 172/182 engine, with the right mods it's more powerful than the 197 one.

Buy bottom end from a 182 and put all top end from a 200. The 182 ECU should work with thay hybrid. you may need somo wiring mods but it it could be done. Head should bolt on, camphaser and all on top don't know, but it similar engine, all gains are in the head. I would do it.

thanks maupineda, but I would definitively have to make a new map for the ECU and God knows what else... I want to know not if someone would do it, but if someone that has done it can give me some light into what issues to expect for the swap... I am not experienced (or properly funded) for going into uncharted territories.

I doubt it would be easy or cheap however it would be exceptionally cool.

No one has done it that I am aware of.

Also think you will have issues running it on a 182 ecu, so would need aftermarket. Best bet is get a 1*2 engine and put some throttle bodies on it, probably similar cost and better results

I was only looking for a "cheap" way of having more bhp, but it seems it will prove to be more complicated than what I thought at first. Will probably stick to the regular 182 engine of a crashed car or something of the like. Cheers for the info, everyone!

Agreed.

edit: 100th post =)

If you have the engine on a cradle it would be a good time to have some work done, like matched inlets, ports, cams, maybe lightned flywheel...even ITB. It's not cheap of course but it'll change the face of the car once fitted!

ITBs are a long shot due to it being a daily car, but could you be a bit more detailed on the other stuff, please?

You could bring the engine to a specialist and make the exhaust and intake ports machined and polished, fit some fast road cams, have the inlet matched, fit a lighter flywheel and a final remap, you could have a consistent power gain with these.
Obviously nothing compared to a swap with a turbo engine, but I don't think the gearbox can take all that torque.
It would be better to fit new mounts all around when you're at it!

Mounts have just been changed 3000miles ago.
Agreed that the gb won't take a turbo.
Will look into improve the air flow in & out as you mention. Thank you! ;)
