182's are useless...

It's the tyres.

I drove my Mum's car yesterday and it was fine. Mine won't even move. There's still five inches of snow around it.

I could dig it out, I guess. Could you tell me how to do that? Do I use my face?

Matching RB wheelie bin in the background. Cool :)

Not had a problem with mine and the only difference is coilovers.

Its just knowing how to drive the damned thing correctly.

I suppose I haven't encountered anything seriously challenging though so wouldn't know. Just icy roads and a bit of snow. Nowhere near as bad as other places!

Small suggestion from Switzerland: Get some bloody winter tyres!

You simply would not beleive the difference they make. Over in Zurich we get this sort of weather every year but the whole place doesn't come to a complete standstill because everyone slaps on their winter tyres from October to April.

My Trophy is brilliant in the snow - handbrake to get you tucked into the turn, let the steering wheel go so the rear end can rotate around and then catch the wheel, adjust to the correct angle and ease in the throttle to straighten up.

Best time of year to go out driving ;)

Awesome suggestion next october i'm seriously considering it.
But for now its a bit late.

Is it worth going down to 185 or even 175? (I'm on 15's)

Poppycock. You don't need snow tyres on snow. All you need is CS snow hero driving skills that overcome the laws of physics.

I use 205s on standard 16" turinis and find them excellent: plenty of grip in the snow and ice but still sufficient dry weather performance for a bit of fun on the way up the mountain passes to the ski resorts :)

I've done a couple of track days on winter tyres too (didn't get round to switching them back before hitting the track!). Erm, not such a good idea!

The first couple of laps were nice and grippy because the winters grip far better from cold than summers, but damn they go off quickly. Oh, and they fall apart quite nicely too - had bits of rubber covering most of the back of the car afterwards!

Seriously though, the Swiss, Germans, Dutch etc all religious change to winter tyres every October so I think it makes sense for the brits to do the same.

275's on the RRS

Feels like having big ski's on having wide back tires IMO. Get a set of cheapo 15" F1's and go thin on the tire width for winter?

Mr car is awful in the snow. Been stranded a few times. 3 people and 2 shovels had to get me out of a parking space at Tescos the other day!
