197 Cup - white or black alloys?

  Dirty E91
Found this over on the Renaultsport Forum, looks better than a white cup with dark alloys?

thats the cup racer, which i believe can be bought from showrooms in france. its a french showroom. well guessing it is by the plate on the espace outside.

White aren't available on the Cup. They are available on the full 197 though, but they don't fill the arches like those on the Cup race car.

  Saab 93 Aero Wagon
SMC in Guildford have the Cup car they sponsored in last years series sat in the showroom...complete with dents and mega scuffed wheels.
Looks the dogs danglies....and yes i'd have white wheels.

  Mark 1 Clio V6
I actually prefer the anthracite.

There is one in the showroom in Aberdeen and it looks very good.

Lovely car, but I'm guessing impossibly stiffly sprung for road use? I guess they are fairly simple to make road legal? I can't see why anyone would want to though.

Anyway, on the racer I say white wheels, black on the road car FTW

theyre not road legal i dont think, track use only for a cup racer.

theyve no airbags, no abs, no esp, a full cage, mega stiff sus, and racing slick tyres, pretty un legal id say.

i am seriously considering a white 197 in november... but i am jsut a little concerned with the after market values. the residuals are shite anyway... but would white make it worse?

looks fecking sexy though! thoughts?

renault are going to start selling road legal cup racers soon! (the proper race car, not the road car called the cup)

  Golf GTI PP Mk7
really? and how many of our hard earned pennies will they want for one of those do u rekon?

the full 20k? or more due to all the s**t they pull on it to make it legal?

thats the only thing wieghing on my mind atm, residuals, i can see it dropping like a stone, as they have nothing u cant get on a FF197.

well the race car is £25K inc vat at the moment (give or take)

i reckon it'll be around £28k for one

Erm, I wasn't suggesting they were road legal. I suggested they can be made so, surely? I wouldn't want to though as it would be impossibly hardcore. As an aside I'm pretty sure it isn't illegal to drive a stiff car with a cage, and that doesn't have airbags ESP & ABS :rasp:

no aircon, air bags or fancy plastics, worth it IMO! plus it comes in "Fred White" ;)

i think a full cage is strictly illegal tho isnt it? cuz they cant cut you out of the car in the event of a serious smash or whatever, sure i heard summat about that. i might be talking cr4p though.

Porsche get away with it!

you name another full blown race car thats road legal out the box with the spec the 197 racer has!

£28k is only the same as a V6 was (ish)

  Golf GTI PP Mk7
truuuue, but porsche have the badge prestige.

good point on the v6 i suppose, but 28k is still SERIOUS wedge to spend on a clio.

and the vee kinda had that cult semi-super car thing going, with outrageous body kit and every would stop in the street and stare at it, and still do to some extent, which half justifys the cost of one, but i cant see a track spec 197 pulling the same kind of attention.

i don't think its intended for everyday road use, i think renault have done it because there have been ALOT of private (not racing) customers that have bought the 197 cup racer as a track toy, so i guess they'll market it as a road legal track day car

so its road legal to get you to/from the track day

i've driven a 172 with cup racer suspension 2000miles across europe, and 2000miles on uk roads believe me its not fun!

its not something you'll see at your local "cruise" on a saturday night ;)

  Lionel Richie
tbh i have no idea on the new one

the old one was around 40-50hours (racing use)

it won't last long on the road thats for sure!
