197 steering wheel on 172?

  Mito Sportiva 135
Is this possible, and if so are there any pics available?

I find the large steering wheel the only real let down on the 172 and think the new ones are a lot better built and shape.

Cheers either way!

Care to elaborate Tom? It can hardly be an impossible task surely?

Not really, Not impossible as its rarely "impossible" to re-engineer something.
It wont simply bolt on and theres no quick/cheap way round it.

Personally i thought "nope" was fine

I agree, but the question was then asked "can it be done though" and you responded with "NOPE" so I thought either it's actually impossible, or not very easy.

Does anyone know what's actually involved? The standard 182/172 sucks so much that someone must have done this somewhere?

So no steering wheel will ever fit a 197 other than the 197 wheel?

The 197 cup cars run standard wheels that fit other cars (my mate has one fitted to his 182) so there must be something available to make it fit...

just a case of waiting for someone to build a boss kit for it maybe?

nope

same spindle. everything else is different

If the spindle is the same, thats the hard bit sorted lol. Imo that means it will mate up. The switches on the steering wheel are that, just on/off switches. Sure the connectors might be different, but not hard if your handy with the soldering iron ;)

The wheels not too dear to by all accounts?

197 steering wheel will fit on normal mk3 clio. Well wasn't sure that can fit on 182, I wouldn't risk it :S

Why? Its like saying MK1 alloy wheels wont fit a MK2 as its newer. They all have 4 bolts and same pcd.....

cos that mk2 ph1/2/3/4 clios & they are the same things & parts

Yes. But its still a renault, if chris says the spindles are the same, it will bolt up. Just need someone to shell out for a wheel and investigate.

Yes I know it still a renault but mk2 & mk3 are no way are the same things. I wouldn't risk it messing around with the wrong steering wheel type, tbh I wouldn't bother about it & stick with mk2 steering wheel.

Most peoples think will it work...but NO!

You dont get it mate. If the 182 spline fits the 197 wheel, there will be no problem with it bolting up. Mk2, MK3..... doesnt matter, if it fits it fits............ Do you actually know it wont fit?, other than just firing off your opinion to leave it alone? Not sure why its a such a sore point for you?? :S

So the general concensus is that it will physically fit? just non of the functions would work?

The facts are saying that the spindles are the same or something like that, but the opinions are no it won't fit. Got to love this forum, everyone is an expert.

I think that unless you have actually proved with facts that this steering wheel cannot be used on a 172 or 182 then dont say it can't.

D

dick

ANYTHING can be engineered to fit anything if you throw enough cash at something, you could put an f1 steering thing (i would say wheel, but thats not very accurate description!) on a corsa if you wanted.

is it financially viable, thats another questional altogether, and it seems thats the question most are asking.

Yes i see many MK3 clios thank you. Have you actually took off your steering wheel to see if the splines are different from the MK2??? I have never said it will fit 100% Chris said the splines are the same in a previous post...... if they are, it will physically bolt on, thats what i'm getting at. Not sure why your geting all het up about it!!!! Maybe your worried about us 182 owners piching your 197 wheel in the night? :S

You seem 100% sure it wont fit. All i'm saying is you dont know that for sure. You have a very 'blunt' way of putting it :)
