197 v 182 v 172 etc etc

  Turbo LY R27
172 cup = 168bhp/ton (1021kg)
197 R27 = 161bhp/ton (1240kg)

plus weve got to remember that r27's arent making 197bhp, whereas alot of 172 cups are hitting 175 bhp, which would skew those figures a bit more.

Mate the 197s do hit the figure and sometimes a sneaky bhp more, search the forums mate. And its a well known fact that most 172/182s DONT make the figure.

You can think what you want mate, you and me at silverstone, you wouldnt stand a chance.

  phase 2 172
this is my view on things first 172 i had was a cup which the wife crashed into a roundabout because there was no abs she just panicked and slammed on we now have a phase 1 172 standard on a 2001 plate and there is no difference in performance i swear. When we write the cup off we went to renault to buy a 197 f1 on finance drove it was a very nice car felt a lot more modern than both 172,s but did not feel as quick as the cup which at that point was the only 172 i had driven

Looking at EVO lap times around there circuit the 197 R27 does seem to be very good around the track.
197 R27 1.31.97
182 cup 1.33.10
Trophy 1.33.75
But how much I trust them figures though is another story there is no way the 182 should be quicker than a Trophy. So I wouldn’t really put to much trust in them.
At the end of the day there would be very little in all the cars there are no real power differences between them. Down a normal twisty road it would be all down to the driver which was faster.
As for people saying which car feels quicker when driving them its very deceptive the felling of speed. Just try driving a powerful turbo diesel 0 to 60 times are usually not very good but they feel fast. So just because the 197 doesn’t feel as fast as the 172/182 doesn’t mean it isn’t.
