2.0 on 1.8 box

  A SHED!

I changed my mind and decided to go for Hillpowers 2.0l conversion. Nick said he uses the 1.8 16v box with the 2.0l block. I was wondering, does this limit performance in any way? or will it be just as quick as a williams? ps having cams and chip as well!!! watch out tomclio16v! hehe.

i can only assume that they actually have different ratios, but dont quote me on this as im not that clued up on it

as far as i know, the williams GB is geared lower allowing you to achieve maximum torque across the entire rev range. 16v is geared to take advantage in the higher revs. This seems pointless if your going for a 2.0, as you "may" not get the full potential from your 2ltr. You may also find you will be on the red line before your box has even got going.

Nick Hill will be able to give tell you, have you asked him?

16v_er, may i ask how much you are paying for the conversion? i only ask as im thinking about going for one myself..

cheers..

P.S (yours a full blown willy or a megane bottom end with a few tricks?)

well personally after driving both id say first is slightly differant, second and third and fourth are more or less identical an 5th is differant, 5th the more noticable

5th is definately longer in willy box as mine will rev to 6900 an will do 140mph willy engine an box will rev to 6500 and will do 140 mph

if i had a willy box on i would increase my top speed but i wouldnt say it would make much diff lower down

AFAIK, the ratios are the same in the Valver and Willy, apart from 5th. Its the lower rev limit that makes the Willy reach slower speeds in all the gears bar 5th.

  clio 20v

my chipped 2 litre with valver box revs to 6900 will still not hit 60 in second gear

a willy with standard rev limit will only do about 56-57mph in second mines just on the line for 60mph but testing with ap-22 itll never register 60 bouncing off limiter in second

im pretty sure there almost identical apart from 5th

ive raced clean side by side with window down an we change gear at exactly same time in 1st 2nd an 3rd hes got willy engine an box ive got 2l with valver box i limit in 5th tho an he can keep going

AFAIK WIlly box is longer final drive/longer 5th gear. Obvious really cos the Willy engine doesnt rev as high and has more torque low down so it makes sense to gear it up for a higher top speed. Keeping the valver box will give you better sprint speed but poke at the end of the revs.

yeah ben same valver ecu

the 1.8 accelerates really well upto bout 115 with willy box then 5th gear is sh*te as me engine aint man enough to power the box

does a willy rev lower in 5th? I find valvers rev a bit high myself. Would rather have the willy engine and box I think. If its stronger too thats a bonus hehe

if you mean like on the motorway then yeh mine uses quite a lot of juice compared to cols willy 2 on a run cos mines revving its tits off

If anyone knows, i have loftys 2.0ltr williams clio 16v with a 16v gear box...and i feel that the accelleration is nice but once 5th gear comes the revs are around 5000 revs at 100mph. so although the power is still awesome at that speed, the limiter is going to cut in around 125mph.

think i prefer the 16v GB though

Sorry this is slightly off topic, but would a 16v engine mate to a 1.4 8v (RT etc) or 1.8 8v (Rsi) box?

What effect would this have? ie how would it be likely to drive?

cheers

yes, ratios are slightly diff for both, but quite near the 16Vs anyway......no idea how well it would run.

"rockport" you asked how much? wellllll.....its an willy 2.0block and box, with strutbrace, hillpower hoses, chip, piper cams, alloypulleys, heatsheild, bonemount and fitted and rebuilt with a 12 month garantee.....£4360. Expensive you ask? yes but im hoping for top quality job by Nick.

just a thing... by the money invested on going for a 2.0lts bottom, would not be better to keep the F7P but going to TBs and a wilder cam?

Dont know the costs, but the F7P seems better for good power gains. Just get rid of the std TB.

Just this thought.
