200 Raider v 5GT Turbo

I love both of them. The 5 is in amazing condition. Would love to drive a mint one.

i just dont see the point in matt paint? cant polish or jet wash it. it will mark easy with fallout and i would hate to see what happens when a bird poops on it

Anyone know how much a panel will cost to spray in matt paint?

Would love the leather recaros but i think that is all i would choose over a normal 200, wheels look a little out of place.

What were the differences over the normal 5 turbo that the raider had?

Nothing mechanical. Black carpets, blue design on the seats instead of red, blue alloy wheels, little door pillar badge things, a blue GT Turbo badge on the back and a RAIDER sticker on the back window under the spoiler.

Renault take the piss with the amount of Limited Edition runs. Soon there will be a limited run of limited runs, they're just going too far and are undermining themselves.

But there are always people prepared to pay a premium for a Renaultsport with some odd paint and questionable extras.

On that basis, they've got it bang on.

I think they should have made the Clio in the classic Raider blue... would have been supreme. I'd take the R5 any day ;) (with the interior from the Clio)

So the raider r5 is a r5 with some fancy paint and trim

That's what the 200 is as well, so why are people hating?

Because it isn't a Raider - it's a 200 with an expensive paint option.

I know Colin, it's a difficult pill to swallow. The cheek of it.

Instead of copying names from the past why dont they just make some new names for the present? Oh yeah i forgot, because the marketing department is living off the past glory of some great cars to sell the same bog standard cars in a variety of colours to people with more money than sense.

The R5 Raider is amazing and I seriously considered one before going with the conversion.

How much more money do they sell for over a normal GTT? never actually seen one for sale.

They are pretty rare. Only 1000 were made if my memory serves me correctly with most of those now written off or butchered in one way or another. They do command a slight premium over a 'normal' GT Turbo - how much of a premium is anybody's guess depending on quality and originality.

I don't really get it, in this thread someone said the Renault 5 Raider wasn't any different engine wise, just a few cosmetic changes.
Isn't this exactly the same thing as the 200 Raider? Yet one is "really special" the other is "pointless" ?

In 10/20 years time will people be saying the same about the 200 Raider as they are now about the R5 Raider?

Or am I missing something..

Kind of like the Williams 2 & 3. Personally I love the 200 raider. Wheels, paint & interior look awesome... Still wouldn't have one brand new though as they are to far over priced IMO.

I dont like this car at all, if its a raider sure they would have made it 'raider blue' ?

its a horrible colour and so different to the 5 raider. Dont see how these 2 cars can compare really !

The Clio is meant to be the successor of the R5 and as for the clio being over priced compared to the R5 i think you will find its very similar. i cant find the price of a raider new but found a rough figure for a R5 gtt at a little over £8k thats £19.1k in modern money with inflation from 1986. So not all that bad considering how much better modern day cars are considering safety features and extras. Did the r5 raider also come with an alarm as standard? I know the paint sucks and the wheels look silly big but its still an amazing car underneath.

Please also ignor the price tags on these specials as so far i have failed to see anyone pay the book price, my silverstone which is another stupid limited edition was valued at £20k i paid in the end almost £3k under the book price. To spec a standard 200 to the same spec you will be asked to pay near £22k which is just silly.

I was talking about 200's in general being over priced.

Raider was £10995 in 1990

Personally I think Renault should have done the Clio 200 Raider in the original 5GT Turbo Raider blue (or at least made it one of the colour options...) to have made a better connection with the older car but I guess the majority of buyers would have little, if any, knowledge of the 5 Raider. After all it really was just a standard GT Turbo under the blue paint and badges. I think the main issue seems to be around Renault increasing the amount of special editions without them actually being as special as some would like. For me I think it's good that they are at least trying to do something to increase Clio 200 sales.

Interesting to note however that the 5 GT Turbo Raider was the only special edition version of the GT Turbo that was made (as far as I'm aware anyway - I think an actual Renault dealership did a very limited run, 6 or 7 i think, of white GT Turbos with green Benetton livery on them). Maybe that's what makes it so special - even though it wasn't actually THAT special? But whatever. The 5 GT Turbo will always hold fond memories for me, Raider or not.

Not quite the williams had an extra 10% power and 200more cc...
Along with the usual ltd edn extras.
