2004 1.2 Dynamique to a 2003 DCI 65

Would you? It's not going to cost me anything as its in the family already.

Pros:
Better mpg
Bodywork is immaculate
Lower mileage
Lower tax

Cons:
Crap interior
Slower that my 1.2
Older
Lower spec

What do you think?

I would go for it, far better mpg and won't feel any slower due to the extra torque. Can always upgrade the interior if necessary anyway.

It depends - do you do a lot of short journeys? If so I'd keep the 1.2. If you're doing motorway miles or long commutes then the DCi fo'sho'.

Mainly from Oldham to City Centre and back, not much motorway mileage these days. I should also mention that the 1.2 has a piston ring issue or something similar, drinks oil for fun. Which is why i'm considering it, I have lived with said fault for the last 2/3 years though.

why not buy one that's of equal or better spec so the only con is older?!

dci65 is slower to 60 but faster 60+

There is no cost involved in this swap, I can have the DCI and sell the 1.2. I don't really want to go out and buy and older car. Cant afford to buy any car at the minute if i'm honest.

Its either sell the 1.2 and have the DCI or sell the DCI and keep my 1.2. I'll take it out for a drive over the weekend and see what I think.

Diesels are a lot more complicated than petrols.

If the fuel pump fails which is getting more common now they are older it takes out the injectors too, so pump, injectors, fuel lines all nees replaced, tank needs drained and cleaned. Not a cheap fix!

Joys, I may just stick with what I have got. I thought about the belts yesterday too and we have no proof of them being done even though it been my grandma and grandads since new.

If they haven't been done it's due for its second time around now. Every 5 years aren't they?

I'm driving the damn thing now anyway after all that. Mine died tonight, lost power and stalled. Eventually started again after 2 or 3 goes with no power, its running on 3 cylinders and the engine management light is flashing. Hopefully its only the coil pack.

Sounds same situation as when my coil pack died. This is your chance to get the dci. End of day, a lot of expensive things can happen to cars. I'd say get the diesel. Nothing to loose!
