Hello, looking to get one of these as the wife thinks her 2010 grand scenic is an old gits car, fair enough she's had it 3 years..

Anyway we need the 7 seats due to her business (child minder) and these look perfect!

Anyhow I know completely nothing about Mercedes in terms of what to look out for and terms of reliability ?

Would appreciate people's input who have had one/work on them or who have had dealing with them.

Many thanks.

Ps will be like the model below, twin pipes and big wheels.

Deep pockets.

Service often.

Check gearbox has been serviced (every 36k)

Front lower bj's always go. Check these.

Oh and deep pockets.

I worked for a Mercedes specialist...

This is just it, her Scenic has been superb, haven't had to spend a penny on it other than servicing, been to the south of France etc and it's been perfect!

I don't really want to buy a car that I'm going to have to keep chucking money at ;(

Get one without airmatic.

I've just had a strut go on my CLS.

Aside from a faulty exhaust sensor and a faulty driver window regulator it's going great.

The e320 cdi also need turbo seals changed quite often to protect the inlet flaps from oil leaks in the middle of the engine V.

To be honest when there's no problems they are one of the best most comfortable cruisers out there.
Just so easy to drive.

But you never know what's going to need paying for next. It could be a fuel filter or it could be one of the many ECU's they have ranging from controlling the engine to the passenger seat!
Problem is nothing is cheap on these. And if a new ECU is required 9 times out of 10 they need coding. Which is dealer only or very few specialists.

Its a Sport model like mine which i have owned for approx 8 years and 52k miles. Turbo seal is the main thing that definitely needs to be kept an eye on, ball joints are common as said but inexpensive and glow plugs are common also, mine has had a revised glow plug control module as the original failed. I had mine remapped to circa 290bhp last year and it runs really well, on the Sport model it is a fairly harsh ride so don't expect your typical E-Class cruise and mpg i would say anything better than 30mpg is a bonus for mixed driving, the V6 is nowhere near as economical as the older straight 6 model. If you have any specifc questions send me a PM, but i would say mine for the most part over those 8 years has been pretty reliable and relatively inexpensive to maintain for what it is.
